iCloud Photo Library failing to upload & download

Hello Everyone

I write at the absolute end of my tether with the iCloud photo library and it's frustrations!

The feature works beautifully on my iOS devices, uploads and downloads seamlessly. HOWEVER this is not the case with the photos app on my mac. It is becoming increasingly frustrating as none of the photos I need are available to me - the feature is rendered completely pointless!

Essentially what happens is (and this is not by any means my first attempt) I set the Photos app to upload to the iCloud library. It does it's thing (takes about 3 days in all on my connection to upload approximately 75GB of photos), and then it reaches the end of it's 'xxGB of xxGB' upload. It is now still telling me (despite the upload seemingly complete) that it is still 'Uploading 6,054 Items', however this figure is permanent. It is not decreasing, ever.

I have made smart albums for 'referenced' and 'unable to upload to iCloud' and neither folder is throwing up any results. iCloud.com shows my entire library, yet the photos app is doing nothing. I thought the latest macOS update might solve the issue but it has not.

Please can anyone help? Has anyone else suffered with this issue? Do I need to delete my entire library locally and if so how?

Many thanks

Joe

For starters - stop messing with it and give it uninterrupted time to finish - messing with it can not speed things adn may cause a total restart - the counds are wonky and the best course 99.999% of the time is to stop messing with it, hav patience, keep the computr pwered and awake and let it finish - it probably will

Until it does you will not be getting new photos downloaded

My initial upload of 7,000 photos too about ten days = let it do its job unhindered

Hi LarryHN and thanks for the response.

It is rather presumptuous of you to accuse me of messing with the upload.

I have left my mac unhindered and not messed with it once (kept it powered all day and night) and it has uploaded the full 75GB successfully. The 'xxGB of xxGB' has now disappeared and been replaced with just 'uploading 6054 items'. This will absolutely not decrease no matter how long it is left unhindered. I will leave it another few days as a sanity check but I'm afraid I think this is a different issue entirely - and not one simply resolved by 'leaving it alone' (something I have tried already on a previous upload).

You stated that youhad "made several attempts" which is why I knew you were messing with it - nothing presumptive - simply listening towhat you tell us which is all we know

I am having similar issues and have tried deleting my local photos library and having it download again from icloud. Will almost complete and then sit with a variable number claiming to still download.

Looking at the Mac console logs, I've found that the background task cloudphotosd is crashing every few seconds with an uncaught exception error. Nothing is reported to me via the Photos app.

Looks like an application bug to me.

For now I have turned OFF iCloud Photo syncing on the Mac.

Had no problems until the sierra update.
