What if I do not have another Apple device? Is there any reason to use iCloud?

I've never received an iCloud security code(the 6 digit number). When I say don't have it, they always say it will be sent to another iCloud device. I don't have another iCloud device, only this one mac. Does iCloud even make sense if all I have is one device?

Hi there chuck161!

Thanks for bringing your question about the iCloud security code to the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like because you only have a Mac and no other iCloud device, you're running into an issue verifying your sign in to iCloud. iCloud is a useful service and I use it to keep things in sync and to back up some information, but not being able to sign into it or verify it can definitely get in the way of things.

There are other options to verifying the iCloud security code, and one of them is a phone that can receive text messages or phone calls.

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

Get a text or phone call

If you don’t have a trusted device handy, you can have a verification code sent to your trusted phone number as a text message or phone call.

  1. Click Didn't get a verification code on the sign in screen.
  2. Choose to have the code sent to your trusted phone number.
  3. You'll get a text message or phone call from Apple with your verification code.
  4. Enter the code on your other device to complete sign in.

Take care.
