finder search for .mov=0

Hello,

I have hundreds of .mov files yet when I enter a spotlight search with .mov, not a single .mov file appears in results.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks!

Normally, one clicks in their home folder, and initiates a search there, rather than the “This Mac” category which searches the entire Mac, including in System locations. The syntax that I provided also assumes that your Spotlight indexing is current, and that in System Preferences : Spotlight, you have the Movie category selected.

I don't use any third-party utilities to find files as the tools that I use in OS X are quite sufficient to locate what I need to find.

The normal procedure is to open your System Preferences : Spotlight panel : Privacy tab, and drag/drop the boot drive icon from your Desktop into it. Wait about ten seconds, and then select the boot drive icon, and press the minus symbol to remove it from the panel. Spotlight will then reindex the boot drive.

Depending on the size of the boot drive, and categories of index items selected in the Spotlight Search Results tab, the reindexing process may take several minutes.
