MacPro 3,1 (early 2008) OS upgrade?

Hi Eau Rouge, thanks for your quick response. Should mention that I also posted similar questions to other threads.

I am thinking that my MP 3,1 may not have come with Wi-Fi card originally either, as I do not find it in my system (but has 2 Ethernet connects). This is all I see in Wi-Fi section of the Network.

I asked OWC re: BCM94322MCK AirPort card and waiting for their response. While I'm not familiar at all, they seem to have multiple kinds of BCMs. And, yes, Dosdude1's procedure does sound simpler.

I am at the stage of "brainstorming" the idea of upgrading to 10.12 so it might be a little while before I make decision. I just made two upgrades to 10.11 (one clean install and another from 10.6) just few weeks ago. And I'm also looking at upgrading to MP 2012 as well (if the price is good enough).

I have been using an Edimax USB wireless dongle for my wi-fi on my 3,1 Mac Pro with good results. (Model EW-7811Un)

Not sure if I should start a new thread for this, but here goes.

Own MP 3,1 w/ 16GB RAM, 3 HDDs and 2 SSDs on multi-boot system (10.5, 10.6, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11 and another 10.11 - saved all those before upgrading to newer OSes).

The drop of BCM4321 support on 3,1 Wifi prevents from upgrading to 10.12. I found BCM94322MCK AirPort Extreme card for $49-50.88. I wonder if this replaces / overrides the existing BCM4321 and enables to upgrade to 10.12.

The best page to get information on the installation of Sierra is here, http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macos-10-12-sierra-unsupported-macs-thread.1 977128/ where you can download dosdude's patch tool and foxlets AUS enabler app, for downloading updates through the App Store.

Dosdude1's patch tool is a much easier method of getting Sierra on your mac than the one mentioned in the first link.

If you have further questions about the wifi card or any other aspect of installing Sierra I would recommend joining Macrumors and asking questions there.

In previous version of MacOS, Installing the "wrong" Wi-Fi card has historically been known to preclude updating MacOS.

Updating to an acceptable Wi-Fi card will not magically "cure" your Mac and allow it to upgrade legitimately. To go further, you will have to resort to the unsupported hobbyist hacks already mentioned.

So as you have a 2008 macPro you can only really get El Capitan.
