Hotmail issues with iOS 10

I recently updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 10. Now I have issues with my Hotmail account. The phone pops up the window "enter the password for your Hotmail account" When I enter the password -- and I KNOW it is the correct password -- I get a message "Your account or password in incorrect. If you don't remember your password, reset it now."

I tried resetting my password on my phone without success. So, I reset my password from my PC. Still no luck.

I was then advised by a tech to delete my Hotmail account and then re-add it. BAD MOVE! The account is gone, and the "... incorrect password ..." message comes up when I try to add the account back on.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this an Apple issue (Microsoft technicians assure me it is a problem caused by iOS 10 that that lots of people have this problem.) Any help at all would be appreciated. I really need to be able to access my Hotmail account.

Hello, Carey, may I suggest that you probably were not speaking with a legit repersenative of Hotmail. If you KNOW your password then you SHOULD be able to get in. next time totally back up before you delete, however sometimes starting over isn't such a bad idea. However, try contactig Hotmail again and try to vairfy you are speaking with a real member of the team. You never know who can be "helping" you these days

I can absolutely assure you that I was speaking with a legitimate Microsoft help technician. I myself am an I.T. professional, and I connected to Microsoft support via the link in the Hotmail/Outlook help link. I was online with 2 separate technicians and both spent a lot of time with me. Afterwards, Microsoft sent me satisfaction surveys -- and I verified that the sender was actually Microsoft.

Starting over would have been great (and I had to do it about 8 months ago when my Hotmail account stopped clearing the "unread" badge numbers alongside the email folders). The problem here is that Apple sends my password to Microsoft and Microsoft returns an email that my password does not match my email account. Since I AM sending the correct email password - and since that password works when logging in through my PC - there is obviously a dis-connect between Apple and Microsoft. I have assured the Microsoft techs that they need to pass this along to their programmers; and in the interim, I am going to try to contact Apple support. I did find a few other similar comments on various other sites. I've found nothing yet here on the Apple community comments, though.

I would try to restore my phone back to 9.3.5 (I made a backup first), but so much new content has been added in this past week that I don't want to lose.... SIGH!!!!

Okay, all. Here is the solution that worked for me -- after spending 5 hours tonight and several hours since Sunday!

On the MSN home page (you need to sign in) over to the right there is a settings icon. Click on it and look into the security settings area. If you have 2-step verification and/or an authenticator app set up, you will need to turn off the 2-step verification and/or delete the authenticator app. As soon as I deleted the authenticator app, no problem. I was able to install a Hotmail account (now called Outlook) with no issues at all. I have tested sending several emails to my Hotmail address from multiple email accounts and everything loads quickly, deletes fine, and mailboxes sync up perfectly.

Good luck to you all and I hope this helps!
