Where can I download El Capitan?

hi People,

Searching the Mac site, all I can find are "updates" for El Capitan, but no download for the full OS.

I have Yosemite and I want to update to El Capitan (I don't want Sierra).

thanks for any advice.

good to know. that my work for my laptop as well, but not for my iMac unfortunately. I think I may be able to create an El Capitan boot thumbdrive from a friend's El Capitan system and migrate it over to mine.

even though it says this installer is for updating Snow Leopard it should still work upgrading from Yosemite

As I said previously: the OS license is tied to the Apple ID that was used to obtain it and is NOT transferable. The OS may be free, but the licensing rules are strict - you'd be running a pirated copy.

Thank you very much! I have an old MB Pro and I cannot get download Sierra. I was just able to use the link which took me to the App Store and I am downloading El Capitan right now.
