Why is my Office 2016 for Mac suddenly opening with "Microsoft AU Daemon.app"?

I opened the update via Excel check for updates, per FoxFith, ran the update, when that was done I checked the automatic check and download box . Then closed Excel and reopened, did not get the UA app message. I expect the Daemon AU app will not pop up again.
Hah I seem to have resolved it by actually opening it - rather than cancelling. Will see if it stays resolved tomorrow.
Mine has no option stating how would you like to check for updates. Every time I open any Microsoft product - outlook, word, power point - it comes up all the time. Any advice?
Yes Jennie-Lynne and Noel, that's correct because it will now automatically load in the future.
That is the Microsoft Auto Updater. If you want to stop if from running automatically you can open Word (for example) and then select Check For Updates in the Help menu and change "How would you like to check for updates" from automatically to manually.
