Viewing texts while on an active call

Since I received my iPhone 7 (iOS 10), I can no longer view incoming text messages or alerts on the home screen while on an active call. Instead my screen just lights come when I receive something, but I have to pull down my notification center to view what is was. Is there a setting I need to adjust so I can view this again?

Hi NPChicago,

Congratulations on the new iPhone 7. I understand that you are no longer able to view incoming text messages or alerts on the home screen, while on an active call. I know it's nice to be able to see your messages. I'll be happy to help.

The first thing I'd like to have you do is to restart the iPhone. Then go to Settings > Notifications > Messages. Please check to see that 'Show on Lock Screen' is turned on. You'll want to make sure that is turned on for all the apps that you have been having an issue with.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Use Notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Reach out if you are still having issues. Have a great rest of your day.

Thanks for that info, NPChicago. The next step we'd like to have you do is to make sure that you have a backup of your iPhone, in either iCloud or iTunes. Then restore the iPhone to factory settings and set up as new and test.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Once you test it out, go ahead and restore from your backup.

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Let us know how things go after restoring the iPhone and setting up as new.

Well at least here is a work around until fixed (or maybe this is by design), if you swipe down from the top the notifications will be displayed in the recent list.

Also another annoyance that I found the answer too that I thought I would pass along. When on an active call and you need to get to the phone controls, mute, speaker, etc, you have to tap the displayed name or phone number then it will display. I take it this was necessary due to the new swipe sideways lock screen menus.

Thanks,

BS
