Adding silence to the beginning of a track on GarageBand version 10.1.2

I imported an mp3 into GarageBand so that I could add 6 seconds of silence before the track begins. So I moved the file onto a track and slid it 6 seconds down the timeline. When I exported it, the silence seemed to have been automatically deleted. How can I keep the silence at the beginning of a GarageBand track?

You can use the cycle region to mark the part of the track you want to be exported.

Then enable the checkmark "Export cycle area .... " when you use the Share menu to bounce the song to disk.

I solved it like this: Put a loop or some notes on another track to fill those first 6 seconds, and then mute or turn the volume all the way down on that track. Voila!
