I don't think the picture you posted means both graphics are working at the same time. I think that, in Sierra, they only changed how they report them on that screen. It now tells you which graphics are on your Mac, not which one is active. For example, it says you have 16GB RAM installed, but that doesn't mean all 16GB are being used, so it's the same for graphics: Just because you see both does not mean both are being used.
In Sierra I started seeing both graphics listed for my 2011 MacBook Pro too, but that has not caused any crashes or other problems.
If you saw a black screen and a kernel panic, that's definitely a problem, but I don't think it's connected to seeing both graphics listed in About This Mac. You should simply troubleshoot it as a kernel panic using the document below, and if you can't solve it then take it into an Apple service center.
