initialize new ssd with mac os sierra v.10.12

Hi, first time asking a question...

I've got a macbook pro mid 2010 with all the factory components. It's getting to be very slow so I just purchased a crucial mx300 ssd, and 8 gb of ram. I'm excited to see if I can upgrade my computer and thus save me from having to purchase a new machine.

Very recently I upgraded my OS to sierra v. 10.12

I'm now trying to figure out how to copy my old HD to my newly purchased SSD, and it seems like step 1 of this process is initializing the ssd. I've been reading stuff online that says I need to use disk utility to initialize the ssd... but I can't manage to make that happen. Here's what I'm seeing...

They also send me a link to an acronis data magration program, that when downloaded says it isn't compatible with mac.

Any help would be great!

MacBook Pro, iOS 10, ios 10.12
