Mac OS Sierra Notes App on Mac not syncing to iCloud and/or iOS 10

I recently updated my MBP to Mac OS Sierra as I read that the desktop notes app will no longer sync to iOS 10 without the Mac OS update.

My MBP has updated to Sierra no problems, everything seems to be functioning via iCloud, with the exception of my notes app - my iOS devices my iPad mini and my iPhone SE the notes are syncing fine - changes I make on my iPhone are visible on my iPad. However any changes I make on my MBP are not shown in iCloud (log on via web browser) or in my notes app on my iPhone or iPad.

My iCloud account settings on my MBP and iOS devices are set-up to sync via iCloud.

Please help, it's really annoying to have to email my notes to myself to add them manually to iOS... 😕

I have this same problem too but alas, toggling off Notes iCloud sync on all devices, my iPhone, iPad, mac Pro and Mac Air all together did not sort it.

Everything is working perfectly apart from Notes written on the Mac Air running Sierra, none of these are being uploaded to iCloud and yet it receives Notes from iCloud from all my other devices no problem.

All devices are checked using the iCould account as default and i always turn off the local Notes account anyway. I have no other Notes account set up. only iCloud.

I even tried signing out of iCloud altogether on the Mac Air, and choosing to delete all mail, contacts, calendars, notes, everything. rebooting and then setting iCould up again from scratch. After that everything again worked perfectly, apart for notes written in the Mac Air still NOT syncing to iCloud.

This was a full clean install of Sierra on the Mac Air too using a usb key installer, not an upgrade so it should be as stable as possible.

Short of wiping the machine and starting all over again from scratch I'm at a bit of a loss what else to try.

Any other ideas gratefully received!

@Phillipwji: same problem; tried everything on the book: syncing from devices to iCloud (and from Notes in the browser to devices) works; but any notes I add on my MacBook Pro or iMac to the Notes app do NOT sync to iCloud (both systems run the latest version of macOS Sierra. And yes, I too am signed in with the same ID on all systems.

Frankly, I've given up on Apple software (and I've been a Mac user since 1995); it's just not reliable anymore; these glitches keep happening and interrupt workflows. Just not worth the trouble. There are other (better) alternatives out there (Notefile, Simplenote, Evernote, Wonderlist — depends on your needs)

I also have the same issue: while the notes app syncs perfectly well between my iPhone and my iPad, the notes app on the Macbook only downloads the notes but changes I make are not synced with iCloud. I run Mac OS Sierra. Switching off and back on the iCloud sync for notes didn't help. Also switching it off on all my devices didn't solve the issue.

I guess the only solution and hope is an update to Mac OS since the problem seems to have occurred to people after the update.

I had this same problem. But now I have an even worse problem!

When I unchecked and then rechecked the toggle for syncing Notes to iCloud under System Preferences, I was left with roughly half of the notes that I had stored before. All of my notes were stored under iCloud; none were stored On My Mac.

I've been going through a lengthy process with an amazing Apple service person, but it's not really coming to anything. We searched deep into the Library folders on my startup disk and on my Time Machine backup. I found data for the notes that are currently on my MacBook, but no data for any of the missing notes.

Does this seem familiar to anyone? Or does anyone have any random ideas as to what happened and/or how to get the files back?

Thanks for any light you can shed.

After trying everything thats been posted here I just went the whole hog, wiped my Sierra laptop, erased the drive and did another clean Sierra install from scratch. Logged into iCloud on the laptop but STILL anything I write in the Notes app on the Sierra laptop will not sync up to iCloud and beyond, to my other devices, whereas everything else is syncing with it fine, i.e. from icloud/other devices to it. Now Im really scratching my head and not impressed.
