Mac OS Sierra Notes App on Mac not syncing to iCloud and/or iOS 10

I recently updated my MBP to Mac OS Sierra as I read that the desktop notes app will no longer sync to iOS 10 without the Mac OS update.

My MBP has updated to Sierra no problems, everything seems to be functioning via iCloud, with the exception of my notes app - my iOS devices my iPad mini and my iPhone SE the notes are syncing fine - changes I make on my iPhone are visible on my iPad. However any changes I make on my MBP are not shown in iCloud (log on via web browser) or in my notes app on my iPhone or iPad.

My iCloud account settings on my MBP and iOS devices are set-up to sync via iCloud.

Please help, it's really annoying to have to email my notes to myself to add them manually to iOS... 😕

But why? We just got a gazillion new emoji on iOS 10 that people who actually use the ecosystem for work don't need...

Seriously, though; what's the alternative? The sad state of things is that many of us stick with Apple (for the time being) not because they're better, but because they suck less. I've been keeping an eye though on what's going on with the Surface...

Oh dear, oh dear! The plot gets worse. Notes is a total sync travesty.

After doing everything mentioned on this post and much else besides, see below, I decided to once again sign out of icloud on all my devices and delete all traces of them on each, theoretically leaving just what i had stored in iCloud in the cloud itself. Fingers crossed!

Then i began re-installing iCloud on each device (iPad air 2, iPhone 7, mac pro, macbook air) signing in and basically downloading all content as new from 'iCloud in the cloud' to the device.

In the process of this mayhem i also managed to totally delete my iCloud Keychain, so this has also been set up from scratch and each device enabled with the new keychain, i guess with all passwords effectively deleted and a clean keychain to start all over again with.

I really, truly thought this would do it, and that my Sierra laptop would now play ball nicely and sync Notes TO and FROM iCloud like all my other devices were.

But NO and not only that, now my other devices have decided to stop playing ball too!!!

To test, I used each device to write a new Note. Results as follows:

Mac Pro under El Capitan: Note written here synced TO iCloud and TO all other devices. The only one thats behaving, my trusty ancient MacPro3,1 running El Cap - what more can i say?

Macbook Air under Sierra: Note written here NOT synced to iCloud nor ANY other devices

iPhone 7 under iOS 10.2: Note written here NOT synced to iCloud nor ANY other devices

iPad Air 2 under iOS 10.2: Note written here NOT synced to iCloud nor ANY other devices

So, its great, my attempt at a clean slate, as suggested by several here, has in fact not only NOT worked, but has completely screwed up everything else too.

Any ideas? Otherwise I think its really time to call it a day and pay Evernote to do the job.

This is what I had done previously:

After trying everything thats been posted here I just went the whole hog, wiped my Sierra laptop, erased the drive and did another clean Sierra install from scratch. Logged into iCloud on the laptop but STILL anything I write in the Notes app on the Sierra laptop will not sync up to iCloud and beyond, to my other devices, whereas everything else is syncing with it fine, i.e. from icloud/other devices TO it. Now Im really scratching my head and not happy.

Good grief, is anyone from Apple reading this thread!? And yes, get out of there! I chose against Evernote in favour of Bear, but I've migrated my notes out of the smoldering ruins of this app-that-shall-not-be-named. So annoying, especially when you've been drinking the Apple-branded Kool Aid (it's silver) since forever...

Same problem with a new MBP 2016. It downloaded my Notes fine upon logging into iCloud. But any changes I made to Notes are not being seen on other devices. I've since logged out and back into Notes on all of my devices, and now the other devices are not syncing either.

If I log into Notes via iCloud in a browser, changes there are seen by my devices. But any made locally on a device are not seen anywhere else.

After speaking with Apple for 2 weeks and no solution. I went through the following process.

Fix for Notes syncing

1) Activated the 'on my Mac' account in Notes on my Mac,

2) Moved all your notes from my iCloud account to 'on my Mac',

3) Quit Notes,

4) Launch Terminal, and enter the following command: defaults write com.apple.Notes DebugModeEnabled -bool true

5) Launch Notes, and checked to make sure that there were not any notes in the iCloud account,

6) Using the Debug menu, selected 'Delete Data (Delete from Cloud)',

7) Quit Notes, and in Terminal, enter the command: defaults delete com.apple.Notes DebugModeEnabled

8) Launch Notes and created a new note on the iCloud account via Safari,

9) Connect to iCloud.com, and checked if the note has been pushed to the cloud,

10) Modified the note on the iCloud website, and checked the Notes application behaviour,

11) Moved all my notes from My Mac to the iCloud account.

Make sure you backup your iCloud notes somewhere locally.
