Incorrect number of updates available

HI all - I had been holding off on upgrading to Sierra until ProTools and Universal Audio supported it - well, that happened over the weekend so today I chose to update to Sierra.

Before I started, Software Update showed 1 available update - the one with Safari and a few other things and the Sierra update in the top of the window. I upgraded to Sierra, and now it shows this:

Where are these three mystery updates?

Is there a way to see what else is pending or reset the counter?

I used the command line "software update -l" to see what is available, and it comes up with this:

Finding available software

Software Update found the following new or updated software:

* ProVideoFormats-2.0.5.0

Pro Video Formats (2.0.5.0), 6706K [recommended]

What gives?

TIA,

Dave

Ok, I ran that command line update and now the icon badge is showing "2".

I re-ran "softwareupdate -l" and it doesn't show any updates...

I open the AppStore, and I see....

Nothing in the Updates window... But. it still shows two available!

I just switched over to the Purchased tab and there there are - two "update" buttons - for Keynote and Numbers...

I don't know why they aren't showing in the main updates tab, but I'll run them and see what happens...

I'll keep updating this as the weirdness continues...

I ran the update earlier from the command line to get the ProVideoFormats installed, and the icon badge went to "2", but still showed no updates in the AppStore window. So, I rebooted. Now, it's back to "3".

I got the notification window that there are updates available, I clicked on the AppStore Icon and again the window is blank.

I ran "softwareupdate -l" in terminal, and now it shows the following:

Finding available software

Software Update found the following new or updated software:

* iTunesXPatch-12.5.2

iTunes (12.5.2), 145964K [recommended]

I'm going to run the command line updater now and see what happens...

Fun!

Same here. It told me I had six updates. And then seven. I saw nothing to download and install in my updates screen. I ran that command in Terminal and got:

$ softwareupdate -l
Software Update Tool

Finding available software

$ softwareupdate -i -a

Done.

Now, App Store shows six updates available. Also, I read that there is an update Xcode but I don't see it! 😟 I think Apple broke something. 😟

Yes, Apple broke something so it’s probably not a good idea to mess around issuing terminal commands or deleting stuff. I don’t think it’s 10.12.1 per se as reports of this issue just started today. It’s probably something at the server end that Apple will have to correct. Patience is a virtue. Wait a day and see what happens.
