2012 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 VS 2015 2.8GHz Intel Core i7

Hi there,

I'm looking to upgrade from my 2012 MBP w/ 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor to the more recent 2015 MBP model, with the 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor.

On paper, it looks like it won't be much of a speed increase. But is that true? Will the new 2015 model fun faster and better than the 2012 model?

I'm assuming the 2015 Intel Core i7 is a newer version of the processor, and will out-perform my 2012 model. But am I correct?

I should note, I'm not looking at the new Touch Bar model because it doesn't suit my budget and workflow.

I have a MBP mid-2012 13" with dual core Intel-i5 CPU and upgraded with 16gb of ram and 500gb SSD.

I use boot camp dual boot with OS-X Sierra and MS-Windows-10

Both perform great on this upgraded MBP. Apps open instantly and MBP performs tasks with ease.

The Dual core Intel-i5 get a geekbench score of about 6500

The Dual core Intel-i7 will get you a geekbench score of about 6900.

Not much of a performance difference.

Where you get the performance increase is in the SSD and 16gb of ram.

If you just upgrade your stock MBP with an SSD and 16gb of ram you should be good as a New MBP.
