If you are saying you are hopeful that the obsolete iPhone 4 will ever be able to upgrade beyond iOS 7.1.2 then don't hold your breath because the chances of that happening are right up there with a snowball in you know where. It doesn't have sufficient hardware to run anything newer.

The iPhone 4 is over 8 years old. The hardware in it is incapable of running the new software. Plus the developers has have stopped supporting such old hardware.Hence the reason you are not able download any applications for it. If you need to run the new software you will need to get new hardware that can run it.

If you think the Android is better then that is what you should buy.

Personally I don't think it is. I see from those with Androids that there are far more problems with it then a new iPhone.

iPhone 4 abandoned after only 6 years...

Well, actually it still works with 7.1.2 ...

but now Apple says it will no longer repair iPhone 4.

and will no longer give you any cash when you send it in for recycling.

My first cell phone was a Sprint Qualcomm phone back in 1997 or thereabouts. I've had a cell phone ever since, and I cannot name a single one that was still actively supported after a few years. They still worked, as do people's iphone 4 models, but they were not actively supported.

Quite honestly, the reason for that is not wholly the industry but also consumers. Consumers constantly demand new features, new functions, faster devices, longer battery life, etc, etc. That in part is why cell phone manufacturers update their models every 10-15 months. And consumers flock to stores and online to buy the latest iPhone or Samsung or whatever flavor of device they prefer. That consumer demand has a lot to do with the very short technical lifespan of smart phones, tablets, computers, and other tech.
