Youtube won't play in the background on iOS 10.1.1?

When I play a video on YouTube, either through browser or app, if I exit out and pull up Control Center, the title of the video is there in music, but when I press play, it goes blank, and there is no sound. Anyone else having this issue? I'm using an iPhone 6s.

I'm having the same problem. A couple of days ago, YouTube background playback stopped working out of nowhere. I don't know what's wrong with it, but whenever I go to Control Center and hit "play", it just goes blank. I've tried restarting Safari (I prefer the YT layout on Safari over the actual app), and I've tried restarting my iPod completely. Nothing has worked, and if I have to pay for YouTube playback, heads are going to roll.

I have an iPod 6 with iOS 10.2, and I use YouTube through Safari. I updated the iPod when the update came out over a month ago, and I'm just now having this problem.

Somebody help!

Hey. Everyone who have a problem with playing youtube videos in the background in 10.1 and later

Heres a fix,

The next time you open youtube from your safari browser jist request for a desktop site

You can do it either by using the share button in the bottom left corner and say "show desktop site"

Or

You can tap and hold the refresh button on the right side of the URL bar.

Once you open the desktop site

You can now search for your desired video and once it starts playing, just click the home button. After you are at the home screen just open the control centre and you'll be able to play it in the background once you hit the play button in the music section of the control centre.

Peace.

So since update 10.3.1, the only way I have found to be able to play videos in the background is to load first go to private browsing, go to your video and make sure it is playing and in full screen, then go to advanced safari settings (Settings>Safari>Advanced) and to turn off JavaScript. Then go back to the video, and make sure that it can play. If it doesn't, turn on JavaScript again, and repeat the steps above. If it does, leave safari to the home screen, go to control center, and press play.

Villosa , where you able to fix this ? I'm having the same exact issue . Worked just fine before 2 updates ago. I'm really annoyed about this that I'm even considering moving to android instead. I used YouTube on a daily basis and now I no longer can play music in the background. I can cope w bugs , battery shortage , etc but don't touch my music

I got the same problem for a few weeks now! For me it used to work to open safari, put on a song from youtube, close and then press play in control center but just suddenly didn't work anymore. First in control center you can see the song title, but when I press play it just switches really quick to a view of blank. Now I read this and then I subscribed to YoutubeRed but still not working for me. Superannoyed at this really. Please can you give me some instructions. Thanks!

I think YouTube/Google has discovered the "desktop mode" trick and shut it down .

Many on these blogs (including myself) have been using the "Dolphin" browser for months it works perfectly. You will have to bring up the control panel, swipe right to bring up the "play button" in the panel.

The few times it has frozen, I simply hit the home button twice, force close the app, and then restart Dolphin and Voila, unfrozen and working again!!!

Hope this solution works as well for you as it has for me and many others who have had success with Dolphin.

Actually, I have tested this problem with an old iPhone 4S and it allows me to play YouTube music in the background. However, when I attempt to play it in the background on an iPhone 6, it doesn't play. I open up the control center after leaving Safari and the YouTube video appears above the play button, but when I press play, it changes from the YouTube music to the Music app, playing one of my songs from the Music app. So, I believe that either the version of my iPhone 4S either has a miraculous glitch, or the iPhone 4S doesn't have the same problem as the later versions.

I have found a solution to this problem. If you want to play music from YouTube in the background while you are using other apps, or while your phone screen is locked, just use a free app called Musi. It is rated 4 1/2 out of 5 stars and it truly works. In fact, I am using it right now as I type this solution. I certainly hope this helps others.
