Youtube won't play in the background on iOS 10.1.1?

Youtube blocked background play on mobile because they want people to buy a youtube red subscription.

But you can get around it with Google Chrome (Ironic), Safari seems to fail every time I tried this trick.

Chrome: go to the Youtube website and on the top right next to the tabs button you can click the three dot icon to pull down a menu, press "Request Desktop Site" and done.

Listen to your youtube music in the background!

For me changing the app to PC version worked. Not sure what is wrong with the app.

Screw apple. Completely done on purpose with iOS 10. Horrible company. Will never purchase another apple product in my life. Updates make the user experience more restricted and annoying what a scam.

Youtube has gotten pretty greedy lately and I guess they have good control over their platform through Safari. You can still make it work with a subscription but i'd just use bootleg apps. There's plenty out there and you'll get a lot more of enjoyment out of them 😏

There are many bootlegs out there that'll take care of your problem! Video downloaders, browsers, backround play apps. You just have to look for them! Apple and Youtube are really greedy, they don't deserve that extra money. BOOTLEGS deserve that extra money! Neheheheheh

I came up with an even better solution.

1. Go to http://videos.bing.com

2. Type in the name of the music video or content you want to listen to, but at the end write -youtube (minus sign, followed by the word youtube)

3. Play it and put it in the background as usual, feel free to go other apps or go to lockscreen and save power, etc.

4. The world will be a better place because you are saving electricity and taking money away from google-- because THEY are the ones who made youtube stop working in the background

I had his same problem. I am working in IOS 10.X (newest version, don't recall the number) and tried the private browsing to no avail. However, I discovered that if you force YouTube to work in desktop mode through the website's settings (next to the search bar), it works perfectly.

Actually, Apple gave a secret update to the control centre. That thing you are talking about, earlier also worked on iOS 10.2.1. At the moment, you might have noticed that, 3rd party apps like Spotify, Documents 6, ... are given scrubbing feature in the control centre, without updating the app, and without updating the iOS. I am still on iOS 10.2.1. I don't know how apple automatically updates the control centre. Some miracle, developers don't know yet about the iOS !

I have found when you use a third party app to use YouTube that it works, I came looking on here hoping there just something in settings I had to switch to get it to work, but apparently It’s not that simple, I’m ok using the third party app, I just wish I could use my safari instead to keep it simple, I would give out my third party app but I was looking on the AppStore for it to send a picture and I can’t find it, it seems to have been deleted.

Hi, I don't know if you had the answer but I found that Firefox will do the trick as someone posted somewhere else before. You just need to download and play YouTube in Firefox browser.

Play video of choice

Press Home Button

Pull up Control Panel

Press Play

Guys!! I figured it out, you have to go into private on safari then do what u would usually do. Go on YouTube then home screen and press play. I dont know why it doesn't work on not private mode?
