Youtube won't play in the background on iOS 10.1.1?

When I play a video on YouTube, either through browser or app, if I exit out and pull up Control Center, the title of the video is there in music, but when I press play, it goes blank, and there is no sound. Anyone else having this issue? I'm using an iPhone 6s.

I had his same problem. I am working in IOS 10.X (newest version, don't recall the number) and tried the private browsing to no avail. However, I discovered that if you force YouTube to work in desktop mode through the website's settings (next to the search bar), it works perfectly.

It is in the Multitasking settings.

Persistent video overlay is when you can minimize a video and watch it on a corner of your screen while you are using another app. It is a really cool feature. Picture in picture if you will. I could swear that it was working with YouTube in iOS 9, but it is gone in iOS 10.

I Have seen other instances where this particular feature doesn't work in other apps now where it worked in iOS 9.

Here is my local news channel broadcast while using Safari.

IT worked in background until 10.0 & .1 update- these solutions below don't work any longer & it should have nothing to do with having to subscribe to YouTube red- considering it worked perfectly before the update- I kept waiting for someone to come up with solution for past few weeks but no one has anything new- pretty lame it won't work now and we shouldn't be forced to pay for a subscription to youtube just to get background music- yes I have shut down- clicked all the home and multitask features and all other suggestions but to no avail.

Yes---i did see ur answer- but I should have added that I have an older iphone4 and it stills plays in the background just as iPad did until 10.0 & 10.1 upgrade- as a matter of fact I used it all the time and was using YouTube in background right up until I upgraded iPad-immediately afterward no can do--- so can't be YouTube as it still works on my iPhone as background music while using safari, other apps, or even closed- it still works - but youtube is not connected with apple product alone so this upgrade occurring at the very instant youtube also changes is like no chance.
