iPad rotation bug in iOS 10
SInce iOS 10.0, my iPad Air 2 gets stuck in landscape mode from time to time and there is no way to rotate except a reboot. This seems to be a bug in iOS 10 that needs to be addressed.

Hi. There are a couple of suggestions here Re: Screen rotation not working but they may have stopped working with the iOS 10.2 update. It should always be fixed by restarting (power off and back on, not just sleep). According to multiple users, the rotation locking happens randomly, and only affects iPad Air 2. I suspect there's a bug in the firmware for the M8 motion coprocessor, or in the interface between it and generic iOS code. You're the 49th different poster with this problem since iOS 10.1.1 came out.
I to am having the same issue, for the past week or so my iPad Air 2 either gets stuck in vertical or horizontal mode, more often than not horizontal mode and the only way to sort it is keep rebooting, so sent off a bug report via the link MichelPM posted.
Same issue on my iPad Air 2. I found that if I simply push the power button off and then click it on again, the rotation will return to proper action. So far, I have not needed to reboot (either soft or hard) to correct this. It's just annoying to have to turn the screen off and on again every time this happens.
I would suggest that you do keep reporting to Apple the issues that you are having as if more people continue to have this issue, they may find a problem and resolve it. However, on that note, I do not have this issue on my iPad Air 2 so it may be a bug related to something else that is causing the issue. Getting more and more feedback can help isolate the problem and get it corrected.
Same issue here on my iPad Air 2. Since installing iOS 10 about a third of the time when I wake up my screen it won't rotate. It's almost always fixed by locking and unlocking the screen again. Not a huge problem, but definitely annoying.
Hi. Have you tried turning off Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion. This has helped some iPad Air 2 users. Please report it here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html so Apple knows it's a real problem.
Hi, yes, I always turn it off by default on all my devices.
Hello DTM-73. Do you have an iPad Air 2 that is experiencing random rotation failure? Even though Reduce Motion is off? Note that this double negative means that "motion" is actually enabled.
Sorry, I wasn't very clear there. Yes, reduce motion is enabled on my devices, including my iPad Air 2 (mgty2b/a). Regards.
I have the same issue iPad Air 2. After IOS update, the screen rotation locks randomly. Only way to fix it is by turning off the device.
Edit: I can confirm that it "unlocks" when I leave the iPad in sleep mode for a few minutes.
Same here, iPad Air 2, 10.2.1.
Random rotation lock, sometimes when lock and lock it resolves the issue, many times I need to reboot.
Same here, iPad Air2 iOS 10.2.1 32GB - with iOS 9 all works fine.
And it seems, that the rotation-speed is always slow (if it works).
I can confirm this worked for me. Thanks a bunch!
I did 🙂 thanks
Agreed. Trouble is that it's device-specific, applies only to iPad Air 2. Keep hitting the feedback!
