Unknown Error 4450/4280 for Philips (NOT SONY)

I have been trying to figure out why I am getting these errors, and I have found absolutely no help.
It seems that Apple's support site it set up to purposely make it difficult.
Not only is iTunes getting unknown errors every time I try to burn a CD, but also, when I import CDs I get static.
I'm requesting that someone help me, hopefully someone without a mac.
My diagnostics:

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

I would love to get to the end of this as it has begun happening on my machine too and I don't think my drivers are out of date. Here's my guff (not really knowing what I'm talking about!): -

Paulous, I would suggest getting whatever it is that people use to clean drives. I don't completely understand all this either, but I think that'd be the first step. If that doesn't help I'd contact the people you got your computer from and see if they have any answers. I know with Dell, they did this program where they took over the computer for a few minutes and check some stats and were able to quickly tell me what to fix. I hope that's helpful.

I have been having the same problems with my Mad Dog Megastor 16x3DVD9-8 and I have a Dell 4600 from about 3 years ago. 4450 is the # I am getting for the problem code. I have been able to burn DVD's but not CD's from I-Tunes or any other burner I have. I have been able to burn CD's up until about 2 - 3 months ago. Any clues??
