iPod 30-pin to headphones connection?
Hey guys, this is gonna be a bit of a retro question!
I'm still using (and devoted to) my old iPod classic 160GB, but for a LONG time now the headphone jack has been damaged. Like EVERY iPod I owned before it (I think this is my fourth over 12 years), the connection slowly damaged, meaning at first the right hand audio signal got weaker, and then ultimately would totally cut out. Basically, to listen to full stereo audio in headphones, I have to maintain the jack at a certain angle, outside of which either there is no signal on the right hand side at all or you hear everything in mono. Don't get me started about connecting via aux cable into an amplifier, it usually screeches like a banshee - I'm not risking any blown speakers there!
Basically, I'm getting sick of only listening to the left channel, or gently holding the headphone jack in place to be able to listen to music in stereo. I once attempted to replace the headphone jack in my old iPod and it didn't go too smoothly, so given that Classics are now effectively collectors items, I'm not risking the welfare of my device by opening it up again. I was wondering if there are any adaptors or devices out there which would enable me to plug headphones (and also aux cables) into the iPod via its 30-pin power/data connector? I've had a pretty long old search on the web.
The most promising thing I've found is this eBay listing, which still somehow looks suspicious -- I'll be the first to admit I have a pretty limited grasp of electronics, but I can't see how such a small cable would read the data from the iPod and transfer it to an audio signal..
Any other ideas? Other than 'throw your iPod in the bin and start to use Apple Music/Spotify/etc. on your phone'
