It seems my iPad2 can't be used anymore, because it can't be updated with iOS10.

HI,

I'm using iPad 2 which is updated up to iOS 9.3.5. It seems I can't use this anymore, because it can't be updated with iOS10. The games I used to play without problem keep clashing. It's only 3 or 4 years old...I liked Apple products, but now I have a doubt even if I buy a new iPad, do I have to keep buying the newer one every four years?? It's not that cheap.

Is there any chance to fix or update my iPad2?

Best Regards,

K.M

Thanks again.

I've just tried to follow your tips.

As for the Candy Crush, here is the answer from them.

Unfortunately iPad II does not have sufficient resources to play Candy Crush Saga.

The limitation is in the RAM for the operation system of your tablet. You might have either 16, 32 or 64GB of RAM to store data but only 0,5GB of reserved RAM to handle both the operation system as well as running apps.

When iPad II was released back in 2011 it was with iOS4. Today the latest version of the operation system is 9.3 which require even more of the limited resources available. Candy Crush has also evolved with more levels and features and combined can create issues where the iPad crashes.

You will however still be able to enjoy the game on Facebook and King.com - just make sure you have the game connected online and you can continue playing on a stationary computer.

Kind regards,

Well, at least I managed to open Messenger and even Candy Crush (not very smoothly like before). So, your method is working. Thank you!

Your device cannot be upgraded to iOS 10, but the existing apps should continue to work. If your device seems to be unstable you can try the following all-purpose steps for dealing with erratic device behaviour. They assume that all of the content you want on the device is in your library ready for restoring. If it isn't see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first. I would also recommend you copy everything out of the camera roll if you haven't already.

  1. Backup device.
  2. Restore as a new device.
  3. Restore the backup you made earlier.

Use an encrypted backup if you want to preserve passwords, wi-fi settings, web history and health data where appropriate.

Hello,

I had done it before, with my iPad and PC. It looks like a loop. I wrote my complaint, and clicked "submit"...

This message; To submit feedback or get technical support, go to the app site. Then I clicked "App Site", Ta.da-- go back to the beginning. I've just done the writing and clicking. Same. My message won't go anywhere.

Feedback or technical support for the app itself goes to the app developer. Refund requests for non-delivered items or something bought in error should go to iTunes Store support. It should be possible to find a suitable report form for the iTunes Store. Start here: https://support.apple.com/itunes.

See my performance tips for older iPads.

Slow iPad 2 on iOS 9

The iPad 2, 3 and 1st generation iPad Mini are all ineligible and excluded from upgrading to iOS 10.

They all share similar hardware architectures and a less powerful 1.0 Ghz CPU that Apple has deemed insufficiently powerful enough to even run the basic, barebones features of iOS 10.

Why would you want to upgrade, anyways?

Since iOS 8, older iPad models such as the iPad 2, 3 and 4 have only been getting the most basic of iOS features.

Older iPad users get none of the newest and coolest cutting edge features that newer model iDevices, with better hardware specs, can handle with more aplomb.

Plus, these are the only two supported models left that use the much outdated 30 pin dock connector.

The same iPad 2 users who whined and moaned and groaned that both iOS 8 and 9 slowed down the performance of their iPad 2 models would come back, once again, in angry droves, with even more complaints of slowdowns under iOS 10.

Plus, the initial release of iOS 10, at the moment, seems riddled with bugs and undocumented feature omissions that current iOS upgraders are, currently, struggling with.

FYI,

Just because your iPad 2 is no longer able to upgrade to the latest iOS doesn't mean your iPad 2 is suddenly useless.

Your iPad 2 will work as it always has and the apps you have installed on it will continue to update and receive some level of app updates relevent to your current iOS.

You have had four years of iOS upgrades and updates.

Your iPad 2 will still do everything it does now and you will, get, at least, another full year, perhaps two, if you decide you want to wait longer to get a new or newer iPad model.

Your iPad 2 is NOT suddenly becoming obsolete.

Good Luck to you!

Hi,

Thanks for noticing my post here.

What has gone wrong with my iPad 2, is that I can't even answer to you with my iPad2. (I'm using PC now.)

My main problem is with the games though. I purchased something (stupidly spent actual money!) on one of the games. I received the bill OK, but the item is not there. I have informed the issue to the game provider, no answer...And at the other game, I can't even open it.

You can try a hard reset before you immediately jump to restoring the device, since this can be a long process. From what you have described, it seems to be more of an issue with the software or hardware of the iPad than with the applications.

Press and hold the Power and Home buttons for about 8 seconds until the iPad turns off, then turn it back on and test. It's a simple and quick step that may fix the issue without having to restore the iPad. You should not lose any data with this reset.

Most games in the iTunes Store will work on a much lower iOS than iOS 9. Even work intensive apps such as Hearthstone can work on an iPad 2 with iOS 6!

If you go to my link and do all of my tips, both Candy Crush and FaceBook messenger may work.

I have no idea why the Apple iTunes store isn't working.

Candy Crush's minimum iOS version is iOS 5 and iOS 6.

FaceBook messenger's minimum iOS is still iOS 8.

This has nothing to do with iOS 10, AT ALL!

It is about getting your iPad 2 to use less hardware/software resources for unimportant processes and use those same resources to work with more important apps that NEED access to those resources that your iPad 2 is using up to control unecessary things.

So, go through each of my tips one at a time to help boost your iPad 2's overall performance and functionality.

FYI,

I have an iPad 2, 64 GBs storage model with approx. 20 GBs of free storage space left and iOS 9.3.5 is running pretty well for me.
