iphone 7 home button crack

I have been using my new Iphone 7 for about 20 days, that night was using as usual as I do, there was no drop or crash or whatever happened, but the phone suddenly told me that "touch ID not associated with the phone".

I tried several time to use my touch ID to access the phone but was not working and even the home button itself not working either. I thought was somehow the setting problem so I lodged in my phone and try to set my home button...

at that time i just realized that there was some very tiny unnoticed crack on the home button!!!

I brought the phone to local carrier shop where I bought the phone from and was told they won't look after this matter, but they are happy to send the phone to factory for technical assessment and will decide whether the repairs will be under covered or not.

well, my question is what if apple came back to me and said "sorry, your phone is not covered, you have to pay the repairs unfortunately etc" and then why I have to pay for something that was not my fault but just some bad luck to get a phone like this?

are there anyone else having the same issues as I and can you share your experience with how you have to do with the issue?

do you think I should contact apple individually?

anyone could give any suggestions?

The button did not break accidentally, it was factory defect due to overheating.

And your proof for that assertion?

I bet Apple pays your bills every time you comment so unpleasantly! Look for a life and good luck for you!

No, they usually get a little annoyed with me. I have a very nice life but thank you for your kind words.

I had the same problem with my iPhone I took it out of the charger and it heard the home button crack, never dropped the phone. Disputed it with the company and they refused to fix it. Even spoke to two different managers from the company and they both claimed that they have never had this problem before. I was also told that if this started happening to people left and right that they would have to fix other phones as well. I have had apple products for over 5 years now and this is the first time this had ever happened to me. I am so disgusted with the company and the people there that I am definitely considering switching Samsung. Hopefully they fix yours. Good luck!

Same as you. Apple service center and Apple support talked with me like I'm a liar. They do not believe that the Button cracked itself. Just keep asking me "Why do you think the button would crack itself?".

I don't know!!! I just know that I use it in the same way as I use other brands, like Xiaomi, ASUS, and SONY.

This is my first apple product and will be the last one.

You are not alone with this issue. 3 weeks ago, I realized my iPhone 7, hasa crack on its home button and its no longer functioning. I was puzzled and confused how did that occur. I’m 100% and to the best of my knowledge that it happened without any physical impact. I contacted apple and set an appointment for evaluating this issue. I drove 40 miles away since I only have the phone for less than 90 days the phone some how still under a warranty. Upon arrival to the Apple Store and dealing with traffic, an Apple staff in his twenties took the phone and said” this happened as a result of physical damaged. I kindly asked him, how did he concluded that? He said it looks like that’s what happened. I asked him to please feel the home button and he will see that the crack of the button is internally and not exteriorly and outside is smooth. I said let’s assume I dropped the phone, why the home button was only effected and nothing else? (25% of the home button circle effected) what happen to the rest of the screen? He said “I see your point, I will take to my boss”, so he did. He came back and said my boss believes this happened as result of physical damaged and it will cost $157.94 to fix it. I was very disappointed how Apple irrationally concluded the phone was physically damaged and charged me. I informed apple Rep, I will pay you the amount you are asking to fix the home button malfunction but I promise you, this phone will be my last Apple Product I will ever own. Also as a father of 8 children I will ensure no one of them growing having your products. If I have to write a will for my children and their grand children to avoid your product I will do that. Apple did me the same way Dish network did. I’m committed to make every person I know fully aware of my situation and sate to them the importance of how customers are treated at Apple. Its is very sad to see such a great company like Apple heading the wrong direction and going down the slope, in my opinion. Thank you

i also have the same issue. the crack appeared after a unexpected restart of the phone. no history of it being dropped nor other visible cracks. and even if still under warranty (8 month old iphone 7 plus) the service center will repair/replace it for $500 USD. i think that's just too much for a flimsy home button. very much disappointed too. tried to call apple and they said that this is not a known issue and have never heard of this problem before.

Until you have Apple examine it you won't know whether they will cover it under warranty or whether they think it is due to accidental damage. You can have your carrier handle that or you can do it yourself -- see: iPhone Repair - Official Apple Support

Hello, I had the same issue. I used my Iphone 7 for 2 days when all of a sudden, while I was still on a call, the phone started re-booting itself repeatedly and the screen went, grey, black, on... of, grey, black, on off... etc. When I had a closer look, I realised that there was a small crack on the home button, however I did not drop my phone in any way. I hardly ever used my phone within the 2 days. I took the phone back to MTN immediately, however MTN is refusing to replace/fix the phone and telling me that it will cost R7500 to fix the phone. This is so frustrating, having this kind of problems with an Iphone that is worth R15999. I have a MAC, Iphone, Ipod and an Ipad and I have never had this kind of problems with any of my devices. So disappointing.

Hi RenskePTA,

I can't agree more!

I had the exactly the same experience as you had, I have been using iphone since the first generation, and I have mac, ipod, ipad etc apple products, but this time, no body seems to dare enough to take my phone back and replace it...

my carrier company even threw me a very suspicious eye looking like I was a liar and it was all my fault because I must have dropped the phone to cause the damage...but swear to GOD, NO, i have done nothing.

have you tried to contact apply support? because I am in NZ and it would be a trouble if i sent the phone to US head office for an assessment, especially it's nearly Christmas time...

oh...
