iPhone 7 Plus display dingier than iPhone 6 Plus display

I just upgraded from an iPhone 6 Plus to an iPhone 7 Plus. The first thing I noticed was that the display on the iPhone 7 Plus seems to be "dingier" than that of the iPhone 6 Plus. It's not as bright for the same setting. At maximum setting the iPhone 6 Plus is noticeably brighter, and whiter.

I thought the iPhone 7 Plus was supposed to be brighter than the iPhone 6 Plus. Is there something wrong with my new iPhone do you think?

All the settings are, I believe, the same. I restored from a backup of my iPhone 6 Plus I saved in iTunes this morning.

After I sent an email this morning and asked, the support person called me back and said the engineers are still looking at my report, photos and the report from the Apple repair center which also looked at it. He hopes to get back to me within another day or so.

Generally I love the phone. Except for the display brightness, which is clearly inferior to the iPhone 6 Plus despite Apple advertising the opposite.

So I am looking forward to hearing back within the next day or so and resolving this problem, one way or the other. Believe me, I will post as soon as I hear some news!

By the way, the important part to me is the brightness. While it's true that "whites are not as white as they were" in addition to that the overall brightness is diminished, even though it's supposed to be 25% brighter. Everybody who has looked at mine side-by-side agrees, even the Apple repair center staff when we first tried an exchange.

While it's hard to judge 25% more bright, it's easy to judge "dimmer." 100% of the people who have seen my iPhone 7 Plus - Apple staff included - agree it is dimmer than my iPhone 6 Plus. And the whites not as white.

I'm curious if anybody, anywhere, has ever seen an iPhone 7 Plus looking at all brighter than an iPhone 6 Plus side by side with the same settings.

The Apple supervisor still has not gotten back to me.

I know. I'm still waiting to hear back from Apple! If they can fix the problem and get me an iPhone 7 Plus that is as advertised - 25% brighter, more vibrant, etc. than my iPhone 6 Plus then great. Otherwise I would very much like to revert to what I had and wait another year. But I need Apple's assistance in doing that because of no return policies here in Japan. If it was the U.S. with their 14 day return policy I probably would have reversed the transaction by now.

You just can't be too careful I guess. I wouldn't have suspected this of Apple. They have always been so helpful in the past.

The weirdest part of the call is the Apple support person saying that's, “just the way they are.” He is trying to claim that the iPhone 7 Plus might not look brighter but it really is.

That makes no sense at all. Apple's advertising says it is supposed to be “noticeably more brilliant and vibrant.”

If you can’t see it how can be be “noticeably more brilliant and vibrant”?

Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving from the U.S!

I went to the apple store on Monday and talked to two techs. The first one said my 7+ looked fine but I wasn't satisfied. So I compared my 7+ rose gold to their 7+ rose gold display and their's are much brighter, white is white and sharper. That's when I spoke to a 2nd tech and she agreed that my 7+ was dimmer and warmer in color. She replaced the display but to my dismay, it was still warmer in color but a bit brighter then before. Seeing I wasn't happy, she then went ahead and swapped out my phone for a brand new phone. It's brighter BUT it is still warmer in color :(

I'll give this phone a week or more to see, if not I will go back to apple.
