macOS Sierra mouse click not working at times

Hi

I have an MacBook Pro 15 (late 2013), after installing Sierra I very frequently encounter a problem whereby left clicks are not accepted anymore. This happens with the Apple Magic Mouse (Older model with AA batteries) and with the integrated trackpad. The only way to make it work again is to use Command-Tab to switch to another App and back.

As you can imagine this is a very frustrating problem.

Thank you all for any feedback and ideas on how to solve this issue.

I'm randomly having this problem as well. Updated from El Capitan because the mouse would ramdomly stop working completely. Now, instead, it just stops clicking while the pointer keeps moving, so it looks like the problem have been partially addressed. I think this is a problem big enough, and reported enough on the internet to try to take care of it. I have to reboot my computer a couple times a day during a working session...

Hi Allen

thank you for the fast reply.

it is hard to tell, I have tried safe mode and it seemed to work without problems. But the issue isn't always present so it could well be that I would have to use safe mode for a longer time, sadly I depend on this Mac for work and can't have it run for hours in safe mode. My assumption is though that it works in safe mode.

Is there a software that I could be running that causes this problem?

Or could it be the Magic Mouse. I have noticed that Google Docs, Sheets and Presentation don't play well with the mouses scrolling features. For example in Presentation using the mouse often accidentally scrolls to another Slide. I don't think these problems are related, because it only happens on Google's in browser software (Safari and Chrome).

Cheers

Max
