Apple Watch Heart Rate Monitor Issues?

I have a apple watch series 1. I am experiencing an "Average Heart Rate" results of 180-192 for my jogs.

I contacted Apple in August regarding the issues, sent my watch to Apple twice, received 3 replacements, and still having consisted issues when I run. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Hi

Apple advises that, even under ideal conditions, Apple Watch may not be able to record a reliable heart rate reading every time for everybody.

For the best performance from the heart rate sensor during workouts, Apple suggests that you consider tightening your watch band beforehand and loosening it again afterwards.

The sensor is also likely to give better results for workouts that involve rhythmic (eg running) rather than irregular (eg boxing) movements.

Other issues that can impact sensor performance include skin perfusion - which can vary from person to person - and permanent or temporary skin changes, such as some wrist tattoos.

If you continue to experience issues, for more consistent readings, you may wish to consider pairing an external heart rate monitor / Bluetooth chest strap to your watch.

Jonathan,

1. I have confirmed with a apple representative (at a apple store) I am wearing the watch correctly on my wrist.

2. I took pictures of my wrist (with the watch) and emailed it to apple. It was confirmed I am wearing it correctly.

3. I don't have any tattoos on my wrist.

4. The problem is consistent when I run (i believe that is one the activities Apple advertises).

5. The heart rate monitor is advertised as 99% accurate however it is reading 50-60BPM higher than other devices.

6. I have attached a 2 images of my reading to this post (one is from today).

Jonathan,

As I explained earlier, Iexplored the process with Apple Support since August 8th. I have spoken to over 8 apple support representatives (I have the emails and the case numbers if needed), i have shipped the watch for service (twice), I have received 3 replacements, my case was escalated to Apple's Customer relations during September and after nearly a month, then escalated to a Apple's Customer relations supervisor. I have been asked to try the watch on my left wrist, on my right wrist, and still no solution to the issue.

I appreciate the steps that you have already tried.

That is why I suggested that you continue your dialogue with Apple Support, who are likely best placed to assist you with any further, advanced troubleshooting. I'm afraid that I am unable to offer any further suggestions.

Apple's standard return policy is 14 days, but you may still wish to ask the question of Apple, if you do not wish to continue using the watch, in case Apple is willing to make an exception in your case.

At least they have given you a replacement! My watch has gone in three times and was returned without a repair! Two times was also for heart rate issues. The third time for a freeze. I guess the heart rate is just not accurate. Mine would go from high 90's to low 40's within seconds. I was even worried for a while that I was having heart issues! Unfortunately the watch is just not very accurate when it comes to HR.

IIka Boogaard1,

Thanks for sharing. I no longer feel like a unicorn. Apple engineers are still working/researching this issue ( Its been nearly 4 months now). Last week, I was asked to wear the watch further from my wrist (I attached the photo sent to the engineers). No change with the issue. Went for a light jog at a conversational pace and still getting a unnormal high reading (also attached).
