USB accessory needs power

Hi there,

I've just bought a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina Late 2016 with two thunderbolt 3 ports.

I then bought an adaptor off eBay called TF/MicroSD SD/MMC in order to have several USB ports to be able to plug in an external hard disk and a CD Rom/DVD drive.

The external hard disk works but the CDRom drive gives me this message

USB Accessory Needs Power

Connect "Apple USC Superdrive" to a USB port on this Mac.

What does this mean? - there is no USB port on my MacBook Pro

All Apple Super Drives need to be connected directly to the Mac. They do not work off of hubs. You can get after market drives that will work off of a hub.

I have this same issue. I have a usb-c to usb adaptor, since my macbook doesn't have a usb port - do you think we have to use an Apple brand adaptor? My adaptor works fine for all my other devices.

Other than that, the adapter is either defective or not compatible with your new Mac.

FYI, I just got my MacBook Pro 13" with touchbar to work with an Apple Superdrive via an Apple USB-C to USB adapter(MJ1M2AM/A), $10 @ Applestore. I am currently testing it out by burning a CD from I tunes. I already got it to play a CD in the superdrive.
