is facetime free to use to call someone abroad?

I was wondering does it charge me or the other person I'm calling on FaceTime who is in America and I'm England, is it free for us to FaceTime or does it charge because they are in a diffeeent country? My phone is the iPhone 6 Plus and my friend is using iPhone 6

Both FaceTime and iMessage are free services. However, both require an internet connection. If there are data charges with the connection you use, then those will apply. If the connection is free, then there is no charge.

Apple does not charge you. Standard data rates from your wireless carrier will apply if you are using cellular data.
