Series 1 and 2 watch, using a golfing app

I am looking at buying an Apple watch, and I am trying to figure out which one is best for me.

My main question is this. While golfing if park my golf cart 150 yards from the hole and I leave my iPhone in the golf cart and walk 20 yards closer (130 yards from the hole) to my ball, what Distant will the watch show my actual distance or where the cart is?

My assumption is Series 1 will read the cart distance (150 yards) because it does not have GPS, And the series 2 will read the actual distance (130 yards). I am just looking for confirmation.

You are correct.

Also note that when the paired phone is within range, the watch will use the phone's GPS if the watch is using an app that uses GPS. That conserves the watch's battery since GPS when on is a major drain on the battery

Hi

Your assumption regarding Apple Watch Series 1 is correct.

Whether or not your assumption regarding Apple Watch Series 2 is correct depends on the extent to which the golfing app that you are using supports and utilises the capabilities of Apple Watch.

You may, for example, find this third-party golfing app of interest:

The developer's description includes: "Natively support Apple Watch series 2's GPS, no need to carry phone during game".
