Phone calls occasionally ring on iPad

AIr2 and 7+ are both running latest iOS. Both are on the same WiFi (mine at home). Occasionally a call to my cell comes thru on my iPad as it is suppose to. Other times the call doesn't. What do I start debugging to get all calls to ring on iPad ?

I DesertRatR, I have a question, a problem that happens to me... The call appears most of the time on my iPad, but if I missed it I have no notification on the lockscreen or on the app, the red badge. If it's a FaceTime call, no problem, but if it's a regular phone call, nothing. It appeared with iOS 10, do you experience the same? When the call appears on your iPad?

Hello DesertRatR,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are not consistently getting alerted to phone calls on your iPad with the iPhone Cellular Calls feature of Continuity. If you haven’t already, restart your devices as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're still having an issue with iPhone Cellular Calls when your devices are near each other, make sure to verify both devices are set up as recommended by Apple:

  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device is signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.
  • Each device is connected to the same network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • On iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices, then turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices.
  • On iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on Calls from iPhone.
  • On Mac, open the FaceTime app, then choose FaceTime > Preferences. Click Settings, then select Calls From iPhone.

Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

Cheers!

The problem is that sometimes a call to my phone properly rings to my iPad Air2. Everything works as intended. Yes, all my options are properly set to answer calls on my iPad. I make no changes to my options after the process properly works. Yet sometimes the call comes thru to my iPad and sometimes it doesn't.

Friday night the process worked. A call to my 7+ rang on my iPad, I answered it and we conversed. Saturday night, with the 7+ in the same room it was in Friday night, and the iPad in the same room it was in on Friday night, the incoming call (from same number) never rang on my iPad. I found the callers voice mail on my phone later on in the evening. Checking the iPad FaceTime shows no record. I made no changes to settings on either device between Friday and Saturday.

Is the problem with the Apple phone / iPad? My home WiFi network (I have an Airport Express in the back of the house, about 10' thru clear air, to where the iPad typically sits; 7+ is typically in the front of the house, a few feet from the Time Capsule WAP. In other words, the WiFI signals are strong)? Or is it a potential problem caused by Verizon?

BTW, the phone is set to WiFI calling, due to atrocious cell coverage in my neighborhood. And yes, both devices are patched to the latest iOS.

I have also tried working this via Apple chat, and after running thru their process (basically verifying all the knobs were properly set) there has been no change in the intermittent performance.
