2016 macbook pro 15" with touch bar poor battery life

I have noticed that while above 90% my battery is really good, draining approximately 1% every 8-10 minutes. Instead, when is drops below 90% it drains a lot faster but the time remaining estimate is the same as before. I have been monitoring it for a bit. Here are the results. What do you think?

20:50, 100%, 7:18 remaining, safari 3-4 tabs youtube etc.

21:14, 98%, 6:46 remaining, left the house so put to sleep.

02:47, 87%, 4:51 remaining, safari 3-4 tabs.

03:30, 75%, 5:04 remaining, safari 3-4 tabs.

I was not impressed when I first setup mine up (also 15") and was a little dismayed. But after a couple of days things settled in all my photos downloaded and the hard drive indexed now it is right on track.

So if from 98% being put to sleep to coming back it shows 87 percent, it didn't goto sleep. Do you have power nap turned on for the battery? and what applications did you have running when it was asleep?

I turned off bluetooth, time machine, and made sure power nap was turned off.

Something chewed up 11 percent of power while it was asleep.

For example, before I left today, my laptop was on the charger, but I put it to sleep, then unplugged it.

when I came back I was met with 100 % battery life and the following time on battery.

I had 12 tabs opened in safari, and iTunes was left opened.

I also find that charging the battery to 100 % then putting it to sleep then unplugging gets the estimation of time remaining to calibrate more accurately. These are just my findings...

When i put it to sleep i just had safari open nothing else. Furthermore, no i do not have power nap,bluetooth or time machine enabled. I have re-installed Sierra today hoping it would fix the issue, but seems not a lot has changed. I too find it really weird that battery drained more than 10% on sleep. Everything looks fine, gfxCardStatus reports iGPU being used, brightness is set to ~40% and i'm only running safari. Don't know what could be wrong. Also comparing to the last time i checked battery at 03:30, 75%, 5:04 remaining, safari 3-4 tabs. this is what's showing now : 04:14, 66%, 6:27 remaining, safari 4 tabs.

You are going to hate this but, since I last posted it adjusted to a longer estimated time. lol

How long has it been running with the last OS X reinstall?

Try this, set your power adapter power settings like these below, then let it sit on overnight plugged in with the lid up. This should in theory let it run any and every background process including indexing, etc... Also forgot to mention, but what brightness setting is your keyboard light on?

It's been running like this for about 3 hours. I don think it's indexing anymore because Spotlight in Energy Tab in Activity Monitor is not consuming any power. Keyboard brightness is about 30-40%. This is what my A/M looks like. Remember that the computer was on Sleep for about 5:30 hours.

Why is your safari average energy impact so high? Are you on pages with a lot of ads or moving animations or video?

I also installed Ad blocker pro in safari. it helps cut down the riff raft and unneeded energy consumption.

LOL what a difference in consumption!! I have 3 tabs open, Facebook, this thread and a youtube video playing music. I also have Adblock installed.

Facebook??? lol I have reasons for staying away from Facebook, particularly privacy.... Youtube definitely does bring up consumption. But at least the interface is cleaner ad wise.

Keep on playing with it and see if you can get the energy efficiency up there. I went all out on this MBP. I got all the bells and whistles. I could have bought a used car for what I paid for this thing. lol

My experienced was mixed for a few days prior to reinstalling OS X. but after that, it was wayyy better.. Now I am glad I stuck it out.

Yeah I know its not the safest thing but what to do I need to to communicate with people except the phone lol. Weird thing is the battery percentage decreases, but the estimated time remaining kind of stays the same. I hope it turns out to be okay as time passes, otherwise i'll be really disappointed! I got this machine for Uni after 6 years of using an iMac. As you can understand expensive stuff for a student!

I have a genius bar appointment tomorrow with the same issue. When you say they 're-imaged' your machine, what exactly does that mean? I also used the migration assistant and have the same issue as you but the thought of manually migrating my data sounds pretty overwhelming. How exactly are you doing it? Are you re-installing all 3rd-party software from scratch?? Thanks much.

Since 20:50 were you using the machine up to 3:30 without turning it to sleep? If it so, its 25% less with ~6 hrs of use, it's very nice. All depends on how do you use it.

Sorry, was it a clean install with using disk utility or Command+R -> Sierra re-install?

Today im gonna use mine for a whole day as i always do with medium load but without charging, hope at least for 8 hrs

I'm having the same issues concerning short battery life, this is extremely disappointing. According to Apple's return policy, If you received your MacBook Pro between Nov 10th Dec 25th you have until after Jan to return... Good chance I will be returning unless they figure this out pronto! For over 3K this is not remotely acceptable. I trusted Apple's claim of 10 hours average, I'm lucky to get half that!

No, i was using it from 20:50 until 21:14 and then i put it to sleep. Yes, Command+R and then Reinstall Sierra will re install Sierra without removing your data that's what I've done. I've been using it for an hour today after leaving it turned on all night as previously suggested so it can index and process everything. Here are the results from the moment i woke up.
