Brand New MacBook Pro 15" crashes and restarts randomly

I have a brand new MacBook Pro 15" with touch bar and a 2 TB SSD, 16 GB and fastest graphics card. I restored all my data and apps from a Time Machine backup of my 2013 MacBook Pro and everything works ok, except the new MB randomly crashes, freezes, goes to black screen and restarts. Sometimes it happens frequently and sometimes takes longer. In particular it crashes while trying to do my first full backup after all setup work is done. I've tried backing up to external drives, like 4TB erased and empty and another external and the crashes are frequent, stopping the backups. I also ran a Time Capsule backup which ran for 10 hours, was 3/4 done and then crashed.

I had on older MB Pro that crashed randomly too and it turned out to be a hardware issue- bad graphics card.

Is anyone else having this type of problem? Very discouraging!!

Clearly some of us are having issues but it seems to be a fairly small number (hundreds not thousands of people?). The senior Apple Support rep I was speaking to did not have it on his radar that this was an issue (according to him the senior support reps have a way of communicating back and forth for early identification of widespread issues). That is why I quickly returned it. If it was widespread I would have been more comfortable knowing that Apple would release a fix of some sort.

I didn't hesitate to reorder mine. Good luck!

I have decided to cancel my re-order I placed on Nov 30th, after returning my Late-2016 MBP 15" the day before. I experienced the same macOS crash issue when backing up with TimeMachine using different external USB connected drives. I still have a Late-2013 MBP 15" which I can use. I'm considering waiting until Apple introduce MBPs with Kaby-Lake sometime mid-2017.

The thing with me is I loved the new one immediately. I noticed the speed increase, the color and definition increase and of course, the touchbar- loved the features. I'm sincerely hoping that Apple fixes the very random issues we are all experiencing (sure seem like hardware issues to me) so we can enjoy the great benefits of the new model. Again, my 13" is fine and I love it.

Same as mine. But it seems there are others on the Community having similar but random and spontaneous issues with smaller SSD's and even a few with the 13." Very challenging for Apple. I wish them the best on this issue. Looks like we all love the new models and all the new improvements and features. Little bugs are hard to catch :-).

Same issue here with a Mac Pro Touch 13" 16Gb ram, 256Gb SSD 10.12.2 Sierra.

Freezing down and then rebooting.

This time only Google Chrome and Safari was open and no adapter plugged... 😕

Few days before I tried to connect the Mac with the official Apple USB C to HDMI adapter to a 4K screen and crashed the machine 3 times in a row.

Currently I'm not able to trust in this machine as a Mac Pro. More like a shiny Chinese toy on incredibly high price not a reliable work machinery...
