What is the Icon in the upper right corner that is a lock with an arrow around it?

That would be orientation lock.

That is the orientation lock. Depending on your version of the iPad, it is activated by the switch on the side of the device, or is handled in Control Center. Top row, last icon on the right. Blue is on, That will keep the screen from rotating from portrait to landscape.
That is the screen orientation lock. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and you can unlock the screen by tapping the lock icon in the control center. When it is locked, the icon is red.
