ITunes is not saying it's declined. The message states this credit card can't be used. Why?

I ended up calling Apple and once I was transferred to a senior tech, they let me know that there was suspicious activity on my card. Basically, Apple has fraud protection in place on their servers. Someone tried to use my card to set up a fraudulent account, so Apple blocked that card. This is activity the credit card company never would have seen because Apple never allowed any potential charges.

At any rate, I am now going to cancel the card and get a new one. Pain in the neck, but thanks to Apple, I know there will not be any fraud on my card. I only wish the error message would be more detailed in order to help me make a call right away and not fight this issue for so long.

I am getting this same error. I am using a card that is a credit card and has been my only credit card for a long time. It is also the same card that has been successfully used on my iTunes/Apple ID for a long time. When I recently went to buy an app, the iTunes store on my phone required me to validate the security code on the card. When I tried to do this, I got the error "Invalid Payment Method This payment method can't be used with the iTunes Store. Try again using another payment method."

This error is only on my iphone. I've tried to enter the correct information multiple times with the same error. I've rebooted the phone as well. I've gone back in through settings...apple id...payment & shipping and received the same error.

However, I can successfully verify the same credit card using the apple store on a PC web browser and on iTunes desktop. I am only getting the error on the phone. It is preventing me from buying apps or music.

Any other ideas of how to troubleshoot or fix this?

What type of card are you trying to use, credit or debit ? If it's a debit card that might be why it's not accepted, not all seem to still work with iTunes, and they might no longer be accepted at all in some countries.

The details on your iTunes account mach the card's ? For a card to have a chance of being accepted it needs to be registered to the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, and have been issued by a bank in the country where you are (and therefore the country which is on your iTunes account).

I'm not sending you any emails, I'm just a fellow user and have no access to your account or here nor your email address, if you are getting emails it's because you've requested them and only you have access to your account to stop them

Go to your account's profile and turn off emails e.g. click on your name top left (if logged in) and click Preferences on the popup (you might need to toggle emails on and off) - or this should take you straight there : https://discussions.apple.com/user-preferences!input.jspa

You are also following the iTunes Store forum, if you no longer want to do so go to it and click the 'Following' button towards the top right of it : https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_store

BTW, there isn't any way to "delete" a card, not in iTunes, appleid.apple.com, nor on the iPhone

There is, but whether you can do so will depend upon the account : Change or remove your Apple ID payment information in the iTunes Store - Apple Support

If you don't get the 'none' option on the payment details screen : Why can’t I select None when I edit my Apple ID payment information? - Apple Support

You can't even add a second payment method.

Having multiple cards on an iTunes account isn't supported.

I hadn't tried to buy an app on iTunes desktop, but I just tried and it asked for verification of billing and then failed just like on my phone. I called the credit card company and they are not seeing any declined charges. They are not blocking anything apple either.

I did log out of my apple id on the phone and logged back in. Still cannot buy apps, or verify the payment method. Same error.

I'm not sure what else to try.

I added another credit card and that one worked. Same expiration date. It is not a card I can keep on the account though. It was done for testing. I tried to switch back to my credit card and it still doesn't work. Sounds like I might have to go into the store to figure this out. There isn't anything the credit card company is doing to prohibit the Apple Store, so it must be on Apple's end. The card works for everything else I've been buying.

BTW, there isn't any way to "delete" a card, not in iTunes, appleid.apple.com, nor on the iPhone. You have to just edit the card details. You can't even add a second payment method.
