How to recover iPhone 5S contacts after iOS 10.1.1 update

I successfully updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 10.1.1 a couple of weeks ago. Two days ago my wife updated her iPhone 5S to iOS 10.1.1 and yesterday I noticed our Contacts have been merged (maybe pulled from the iCloud) so I see all my contacts AND hers and likewise on her device. I have never noticed this happen previously when we've both been updated to the same version of iOS.

Last night in order to try and rectify it after reviewing some suggestions on Apple support I selected an option 'delete contacts from iPhone' and it has done just that, the only contact I now have on my iPhone is My Number! I don't want to restore my iPhone to a previous backup as this would be using a snapshot from a number of months ago and I would reset and lose lots of photos, notes, information etc.

Is there a way to repull or revert to the Contacts from the iCloud so I just get back my Contacts?

Greetings JamesandLisa,

I see that you have deleted iCloud contacts from your iPhone and you would like to know how to restore these contacts without restoring your iPhone from an iCloud backup. I definitely want to make sure that you can get these contacts restored from iCloud. I have something for you to try.

Please see article If you accidentally deleted your calendars, reminders, or contacts from iCloud to restore from an earlier version, specifically, this section:

When you restore from an earlier version, the version that you select will replace the existing calendars, reminders, or contacts on all your devices. Before you restore an earlier version, iCloud saves your current calendars, reminders, or contacts, so that if you want to reverse the restore, you can. Just repeat the steps to restore, and select the latest date to restore from.

Restore your contacts from an earlier version

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Scroll down and click Restore Contacts under Advanced.
  4. Click Restore next to the date before you deleted your contacts.
  5. Click Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you'll get a notification on iCloud.com and an email to the address on file with your Apple ID.

Let us know if this helps.

Have a great day!
