How do I update Safari on Snow Leopard?

I have been trying to update my Safari on Snow Leopard but there are no new updates in the app store. Instead it tells me that Safari is no longer supported.

Does that mean I have to upgrade from Snow Leopard first? And to what (OS X 10.6.8 at the moment)?

I have read that Sierra wouldn't work, so which one would? And how and where do I get it?

Am I right, backing up everything via Time Machine and then upgrade OS - or should I get a Pro to do it for me?

I also have a Macbook Pro that is running on Maverick. Does it make sense to update my Air to the same OS or does it matter?

Any help much appreciated 🙂

And please write instructions for dummies (I am not a tekkie.....)

That or switch browsers.

Depending on which Mac model you have, Lion or El Capitan.

See above.

Download codes for Lion can be bought from the online Apple Store. El Capitan is available here.

You're right.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite/El Capitan.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher

Your Mac needs:

OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed

2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)

8 GB or more of available space

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Application Compatibility

Applications Compatibility (2)

El Capitan 10.11 Compatibility information

macOS Sierra 10.12: Compatible Apps

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

macOS 10.12 (Sierra) requires one of the following Macs:

MacBook Air (Mid 2010 or later) Model 3.2 and higher

You could always switch to the more recent Firefox web browser.

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/desktop/

The last full featured version of Mozilla Firefox for OS X 10.6-10.8 is version 48.0.2.

OR

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/

The ESR 45.5 version, though older is, currently, the most secure version of Firefox for OS X 10.6-10.8.

Anyone can use the ESR version of Firefox. Ignore all of enterprise and educational information.

I have been using the ESR version of Firefox on 10.6 Snow Leopard and on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion since this past October.

Been working fine.

FIrefox ESR 45.5 is more secure and up to date than the much longer outdated and unsecure Safari version that you are using on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Switch to using the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Good Luck!
