Sierra screensharing not working

I run two MBP' both with 10.12.1 on it. Both are fresh installs.

I can not get screen-sharing to work if the firewall is on. If it is of no problem. I found these instructions, followed them and all worked. I turned both machines of and the next day it does not work again.

Any help appreciates.

Thanks.

OK I suspect there is something wrong in your machine. As said I have two here that work fine both running 10.12.3.

Try setting up a new user and see if you can make it work there. If it works it is some corruption in your user level. If not it is at a deeper level.

An archive and install as it was called in the olden days (I called it reinstall form the recovery partition), leaves usually all your settings as they where. That is the point of it, so no need to redo all settings, passwords, etc. If not sure you could always clone your system and try it out on the clone ( use Chronosync, simple the best) or have the clone as a backup to restore from in case you need it. Anyway, backups should be part of your standard procedure anyway. 3 is best.

PS. Synopses if you do not want to click the link:

System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Firewall

Click on Firewall Options (you may need to click on the lock and type in your password to do this...)

Scroll down and see if you have the app "screensharingd" listed

If so click on it and click the minus button to delete it from the list

Hit OK

System Preferences -> Sharing

Turn off all sharing options

Restart the computer

Once restarted...

System Preferences -> Sharing

Turn on the sharing options you want, specifically either Remote Management or Screen Sharing

Click "yes" or "ok" or "allow" in the dialog box that asks if you should allow incoming connections

That should do it!

And it did, till I rebooted.

Hello !

Verify , file vault , firewall , stealth mode and block all incoming connections must be unchecked to do a screen sharing between two Mac computers on the same network , also not more than ten computers can be shared on the same network , if you need more than ten computers to be connected to Mac at once use Mac OS server which is available on App Store .You can go to sharing options check the box of screen sharing in both computers , and allow access to only these users , click on computer settings > uncheck the two options any one may request permission to control the screen & VNC viewers may control screen with the password .

If you are using back to my Mac services to do screen sharing check the options , or various methods are there using air drop , via bluetooth .

I have an other MBP in the same network and that works, with the Firewall up and File Vault enabled and Stealth enabled. So I do not think that could be it.

I have enabled file vault , firewall , stealth mode , block all incoming connections in my system , but when I check the box screen sharing a red dot appears stating firewall is enabled - screen sharing blocked by firewall , so this means we have to uncheck firewall to do screen sharing .

Also file vault - encrypts the data - you may be correct as this is applicable when we are doing file sharing - if it is enabled on 2 computers file vault will stop file sharing .

Well the plot thickens.

Here my pics. I have enabled file vault , firewall , stealth mode. As you can see some details are different. Are you on 10.12.1?

As you see if I block all incoming connections I get an immediate warning. And I never had it on in the first place. And I have all green dots at all other times.

Strange or? What do you think?

Nov 28, 2016 1:54 AM in response to ChangeAgent

Yes I am using Mac OS Sierra 10.12.1 , in your screen shot firewall is green because you have not checked the box of stealth mode , you can try in your system check stealth mode + block all incoming connections , it will show amber dot on first window next to firewall , but what is stealth mode , macOS Sierra: Prevent others from discovering your Mac

and about firewall macOS Sierra: Prevent unwanted connections by using a firewall

In this it is written you can do screen sharing as firewall on but on the screen shot it is contradictory and middle two options in screen shot must be unchecked .

And what are your views about > security & privacy > click on advanced > should second option should be checked or unchecked .

Click on go to go folder type ~/Library find a folder preferences right click on com.apple.sharingd.plist and move to trash , restart the machine & empty the trash , by doing this a fresh plist will be created . Follow the step if any issue is there otherwise don't delete it .

I don't know about your Mac is it Mac book pro or Air , check the plist in your system as for every version plist might be different or more sharing plist exist .

Intersting. com.apple.sharingd.plist is found twice in my System. Once in the user folder

The one in the user folder has not been updated since i installed the new OS. So do you think it is not being updated regardless of what I set?

Having had this type of problem in the past (10.8) trashing

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist

/Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist.lockfile

Helped.

I find 3 of the first:

Non of the second.
