At the beginning all of the iOS need more battery, but after optimization it's getting better. Takes a few days. There is a lot of extra thing what you can turn off to save your battery, and you anyway don't need those settings.
Does battery life consumption differs from the usage of assistive touch?
No. It's more about the GPS, and other app settings.
No,no, After me using the Assistive Touch I find the battery draining more comparatively. As my gps n location services were on from the start of using this iPhone.

At the settings delete your iPhone and later set up as new iPhone.
