Apple Watch Series 2 GPS Stand Alone apps

Hello,

I might be a little bit lost with regards to these... but it seems to me that most running apps that work with the Apple watch series 2 do not fully use the GPS capabilities of the watch itself, but rather still rely on the GPS capabilities of the IPhone... is that so?

If i''m wrong, could the members of this forum suggest me a few good running apps that fully use the watch GPS?

(as a stand alone app)

thank you!!!

Hi

Nike+ Run Club, for example, can use the watch's built-in GPS on a standalone basis.

To learn about the features of this and other third-party apps, I suggest consulting both the developers' app descriptions and their support resources. You may wish to look into, for example:

Nike+ Run Club:

Runmeter:

Map My Run:

Strava:

Runtastic / Runtastic Pro:

Keep in mind that app developers may not yet have implemented support for all of the features (hardware and/or software) that are presently available to them under watchOS 3.x - so if you cannot find the information that you are looking for, you may wish to ask the developers directly.

This is usually possible via their support resources (you may need to create a free account, in order to be able to log in). They may also be open to receiving feature requests.

Hello.

I use apple watch 2 with Nike + and I have one review to share with you. I use only watch without iPhone.

I made more than 20 runs (5k, 10k, 42k) with Nike+ and I don't liked

There is a poor information available on watch screen (only time and distance).NO pace. This information is only available when I pause or stop my run.

When the activity is updated to Nike+ on IPhone:

Sometimes the maps are not update to iPhone (Nike app), don't have altimeter (I cant see the elevation), all runs when is updated I cant see the pace per km or mile (only I can get this information when I open activity app).

I'm very disappointed with Nike app.

The best app for runners is apple activity, but the developers need to increase one more function: PERSONAL RECORDS. When I make my best run (for example, my best 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon) I want record it (with time and date). I would like to share all this information if available with my friends.

Nike advises that you can tap the screen or use the Digital Crown to switch between distance, duration, pace and heart rate during a workout when using the Nike+ Run Club app.

I tried Runtastic PRO and it won't work with Apple Watch 2 -as a stand alone... it will say:User uploaded file

Then, if you go to Runtastic web site, it will state:

The Runtastic app is also available on the new Apple Watch Series 2 with watchOS 3. Just make sure to bring your iPhone along because your activity is recorded using the iPhone’s GPS sensor.

**so in all fairness, I think is ok to strike out this app from the list. :(
