Macbook Pro 2016 arrow keys not always clicking

I just got the new macbook pro (2016) with touch bar. One issue I just noticed is that the down and up arrow keys sometimes do not respond to light clicks. If I press the buttons lightly enough (just at the threshold of the key "clicking" down), it doesn't register a press. Has anyone else had this issue, and is it something that can be fixed?

Thanks!

Hi, Justin,

I am having the same problem-just upgraded to the new skinny mbp- and your theory makes me wonder if the people having the problem use a keyboard skin? I do, and it might be adding a little bit of pressure to the keys when it is shut. I have to say, I'm not thrilled with the new one. No superdrive, only 1 usb port, tiny little keys, the magnetic charger port is not as strong....😟

Hi guys, I've had the same problem, most notably on the down arrow key. I've had the top case replaced which was quick (less than a week). This has had some improvement; before 1 in 5 clicks didn't register and now 1in 25 don't. The manager said it is most likely a software issue and I have to wait for a bug fix update; however, I'm still convinced that it is a hardware issue as mine slightly resolved after the replacement. I'm now just waiting for a possible update within the next few weeks; otherwise, it has to be a return.

Well, I have the same issue - but I did not notice it before until I did read this thread and when I did try it.

I'll not replace my MBP I think that this is a disagne flaw. And I have not notice it until know and I'll not notice it any more either. Just press in the middle of the key and the key works.

My final result: I returned the first MBP-13-TB with bad arrow keys and received a new one -- the new one was WORSE, not better; so I returned that too; got a full refund (thank you, Apple); and bought a new Macbook 12" which I have now received. It has the similar butterfly keyboard design, but, thankfully, this one works perfectly right out of the box. I'm still a little weary, as I've read that even this model has also seen some keyboard issues... but for now, at least I'm able to work without constant keyboard errors.

If anyone (or Apple) learns that this manufacturing/design flaw is finally fixed for the latest MB-Pro models, I will upgrade to that, as my work would benefit from the processing power... but for now, I'll take the compromise of a slightly slower machine for a keyboard that works.

Thanks to everyone writing here and to MacWorld for their recent article to help Apple be aware of this issue and (hopefully) to get it resolved for everyone.

I also have the new MBP 13" and I don't have any issue with the keyboard, but I did have some strange sound in the beginning but after a while the noice did disappear - according to other people on the internet (forums) they did have the same issue but then it also did disappear.

It do seem that the keyboard have a "break in" period, don't know why but my guesses is that the down and up key 'll fix it self after some time.

I do not have any issues with my down and up key so.

Having same issue, but unlike some others mine happened more suddenly (more than a month after using it). I write a lot of code and constantly use the up and down arrow keys. Just today the up arrow key changed to only responding to hard or calculated presses.

Pressing from the bottom of the key works every time but pressing from the top edge of the key almost never works (even though it clicks).

As others also pointed out, I too noticed that no other keys seem to have this problem. No matter where or how light I tap other keys, every time they click, they register.

I'm having this problem too and not just light clicks, this is even for forceful ones. It does seem this is an issue with the new MBP for the up and down arrow keys. i've already taken one of these back already after just one week with the bottom arrow only responding if you hit the very left of the key. I'm now noticing after 2 weeks of my replacement machine the right side of my up key is becoming unresponsive and I need to ensure I hit the left side of the key. This is so annoying when navigating a code editor.

All other keys are fine, these are the only two 'small keys' on the keyboard and don't get used that often so must be something with their design. Doesn't seem like there's much you can do but go back to apple once a month and get a fresh macbook while it's under warrantee.
