Safari/hippo connect/crashes

Hello. My iMac (mid 2010, 21.5 in, 11,12) macOs Sierra 10.12.1 with Safari 10.0.1 (12602.2.14.0.7) keeps crashing when running Safari. The whole Mac freezes and I have to switch it off. It is getting unusable for the WWW.

Is this a known problem with this combo of OS and Safari? I have tried disabling add-ons e.g. Flash, to no discernible effect.

A look at the log reveals the presence of "hippoconnectagent" which fails to connect. Could this be the cause of the crashes (only when running Safari)? This is a 3rd party app I do not recall installing, a bit worrying. Does anyone know how to remove this software? I tried contacting the developer but there has been no reply. I can't find any comments about this software on the WWW suggesting it is malware.

Please run EtreCheck and post the report here.

http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

Download it, open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” .

Paste it here when you reply.

dominic23: Thanks I have done that. But I should say that I tried Disk Utility, run from the iMac HD and it found a problem it couldn't repair. I then booted from a USB stick and ran Disk Utility from that. It found a problem (file catalog I think) and at first failed to repair it, I tried again and it said it repaired the disk. I should have copied a full report. I don't know yet if that has helped but here is the report from EtreCheck (I chose "apps crashing"). In red Rapport is security software for banking which seems no longer compatible with MacOS:

EtreCheck version: 3.1.5 (343)

Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com

I Will delete Trusteer and test, thanks. What about the "user launch agent" that appears to be missing. I assume this is an Apple component?

Also some Adobe launch agent fails. Any ideas? Important? I have disabled Flash in my her area, but I ran Etrecheck in the admin account (it suggested I do that to check everything).

Thanks
