Let our voice be heard in Apple!!!!

Is not fair that after we paid for our equipments in the past we have to pay almost the same for a repairment order whet this is an Apple failure.

Many of us have the same problem with our iMacs and we have to give Apple the properly feedback for this situation. Posting this issues in the Apple Discussions is not enough.

Everyone with problems in their iMacs should go here http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html and let them know the situation. Don't forget to mention the first four numbers of your serial to the Apple team.

iMac G5 17" Serial Number W8536XXXXXX. 18 nonths old has developed a single pixel wide Cyan line. Looking at the discussion boards on this site this appears to be becoming a common problem. Do apple plan to do anything to support users who experience this breakdown after what you'd expect to be 50% lifespan of an electronics product such as an iMac?

I have made this known to Apple.

Digging and researching I've found that an identical problem exists on 17" powerbooks.

This site http://www.crosspond.com/apple.php shows pictures. Seems they were all manufactured in W8 factory based in Shanghai around April of 2005. I checked my serial number using the instructions on the site and found out that my IMac was manufactured at the same site September 2005.

Suggest you do the same check and post your findings here.

Appears from all the posts I can find on google that nobody wants to own this problem.

My iMac is purchased in Singapore. Yah i had the same prob as u guys. My screen had 2 vertical lines. The first one which appear was a yellowish green thin line and the other was a much thicker blue line just beside the first one.

I hope that APPLE will recall this batch of machines back since there's so many users having this problem! I think there must be some manufacturer's fault somewhere, somehow.. sigh..

But does anyone tried to get another LCD monitor to connect to the imac? Coz repairing the screen will cost a bomb! Getting a brand new LCD monitor will be cheaper but not sure whether it works. Had anyone tried this method before? HELP!!!!

I have also report this problem to http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html. Hope they reply soon.

I spoke to Applecare and a representative from Public Relations, who said:

"This is not known problem with the iMac or Powerbook screens".

When I pointed out he number of instances on this discussion group and the web the went on to say "we can't take notice of unverified claims that anyone could post"

I take that to mean that we're well an truly stiched up. The iMac is out of warranty so the owner has to pay. I think this is stinky customer service when this is obviously a component lifespan issue.

Finally, with a 50mm wide strip of screen unusable, I got mine to back to the shop I bought it from who wanted to sell me a replacement screen or at least charge to have a look. Luckily there are two resellers here so I went straight to the other one who readily offered to get it fixed under the extension program - which they have.
While the new logic board was here directly it took a few weeks for a screen to be shipped and at one stage I was told to expect an offer of a new iMac - apparently someone with a similar problem with an intel has just got one.
For no charge (even outside warrantied time - or the serial no.s with an acknowledged problem) its fixed and I'm still able to use Classic - but having considered the upgrade I anticipate being back at the shop with the more helpful attitude as soon as possible. I hope every one else can get a similar result.
