My fathers iMac 17" G5, purchased October 2005 Serial W8439, has just recently developed this wonderful vertical blue line that everyone else seems to have here.
I feel really bad as he didn't take out the extended warranty as I told him not to bother as I'd never known a Mac to go wrong!
How wrong I was!
I've traced this Mac to the Shanghai plant and it seems to be where most of these faulty Macs are coming from so there is obviously a fault/quality control problem here.
Which begs the question..... Have the workers at this plant been Shanghaied?

P.S. I also brought an iPod that again comes from China. When I got it home and took it out the box and peeled the plastic off the front I discovered a lovely big scratch running across it! Of course I couldn't take it back to where I brought it as who would believe it came like that and that I hadn't done it?
Apple are you taking notes?

My screen just started turning yellow. I do not have a line though. I did just buy a cheap keyboard to plug into the computer...my wireless was being a pain and the batteries would drain really fast! At the same time I bought a new keyboard, I moved it into the bedroom. This is when the screen started acting up. Does anyone have any input? Do you think it is the keyboard, or maybe a faulty power circuit in the other room? I did just change it and brought it back out in the front room...it is still turning yellow and jumping now. NICE.

Update: No more lines on my G5. Looked at replacing the screen here in the UK at a cost of £534 for parts only. On the basis that I can get a brand new Dell 17" for £90 I consider that spare price to be a major rip off.

I've tested an external monitor and it works fine, no lines at all.

I will now probably buy a 24" dell for about £100 less than the apple spare and use that as my monitor on the iMac. That way I get a nice large workspace for less than the price of the spare.

By the way both of the Dell monitors have three year warranty as standard.

Mine has 6 lines now. Spoke to them too, they said that if there are a lot of users with the same problem sending in their imacs, they might consider an extended warranty program. He can't comment how many though. I asked if we fix it now and Apple decided to extend the warranty later, can we get a refund. They said we can write in for a refund but no guarantees. I think Apple is getting too big and arrogant, not caring about their customers. I just bought a HP Compaq laptop, should have stuck to PCs instead of this integrated all-in one expensive mess.
