Ios 10.2 draining battery FAST!

Apple tested my 5 today. The other phone with the identical coincidence. They said the battery could probably be replaced soon, but it passed. I'll check out the link.

Two footnotes. Check what the biggest offenders are on both phones and on both the home/lock screen is top 3. Also the 6 that wouldn't charge now went from 4% to 97% in 20 minutes after sitting at 4% for an hour. Maybe it just wasn't reflecting the correct status?

None of them had anything to do with the battery. Any major change (10.0 10.1 10.2) added features or support for newer phones (10.0). That's 3 of the 7. The minor updates fixed minor bugs, and in 2 cases, serious security vulnerabilities. Each came with a list of what was fixed. Battery life was not on any of the lists of what was fixed in any release. The fact that some users report a change in battery life after an update has been true for absolutely every version of iOS since version 1.1. In each case except two (2.1 and 3.1.2) it affected very few users, as it has with this version. Any serious bug would affect millions of users, not dozens. If you go to a support forum you get a very skewed view of the extent of a problem, because only the people who have the problem bother to post about it. It's like trying to determine the health of a community by only visiting the emergency room of the local hospital.

I'm not saying it isn't a problem for those who have it, but you aren't going to solve it by assuming the problem is a bug in the version you have installed. Concentrate on apps that could be causing it. And don't discount the possibility of a coincidental hardware problem. Some phones will develop battery problems, and, with 1 billion phones, some of those problems will happen around the same time as an update.

It seems a bit too coincidental that both my husband's and my phone simultaneously had battery problems after the latest update. No running apps and still can only get about half the working time as before.

Hi and Happy New Year! I have same battery issue after update my iPhone SE to iOS 10.2...

The same problem with my iPhone 6s. My battery life was quite good since the last 10.2 update. Could hold up till the end of the day even with more than 60%. But now it seems that the battery drains rapidly, 'bout 10% per hour with a normal use. Checked the apps % and no app drained more than 15% of battery. I am sure that this is a software issue! My battery had no problems till now and I must say that I am a heavy user. Apple, please NOTE this ASAP! Too many people are affected.

Same issue here on the same phone. It is like my iPhone 5 all over again. Why not make a phone where the battery could be easily swapped out? With today's engineering you can't tell me this isn't possible. I think this is more about forcing us to upgrade more often because the battery life becomes worse with each successive IOS update.

With all due respect, you sound like an Apple spokesperson sent out to the forums to spread the company line. If the software company I work for released 7 versions in 4 months, heads would roll. It's all just too coincidental and Apple told me my battery was fine yesterday and I have no apps running on the iPhone 6 which is in the worst state. 100% when I went to bed, 4% when I woke up. No cloud, no mail, no apps .... just the home/screen lock.

With your ER analogy, don't assume that all sick people seek the same ER or seek help at all. Many aren't tech savvy and don't know to go to forums and many go to alternative forums to get straight answers.

Apple isn't noting anything posted in this user-to-user technical support forum; they don't read it and don't participate. The only way that Apple knows the extent of a problem is from the number of devices that have been assessed by Apple's support structure, either phone calls, callbacks, chats, visits to genius bars or other methods of contact through either https://getsupport.apple.com or the new Apple Support app in the app store. Apple knows the extent of a problem much better than you do, and much better than can be derived from anecdotes posted in forums.

If you have a problem contact Apple support; if they see enough of the same problem to indicate a trend they do something about it. Alternatively, they will treat each case as a separate issue. Also report to https://apple.com/feedback.

The fact is WE ARE having serious problems with our iPhones (5S, 6, 6S and 7 have all reported the same issue) and Apple is NOT addressing the issue at all.

I am not an Apple spokesperson. I am a user who has been following the iPhone forums for 9 years, and I have seen posts almost identical to the ones in this thread for every version of iOS ever released. And every one of the users posting in those 9 years was absolutely certain that the problem could not possibly be with their device, and must be a bug in whatever version they had just installed. What do you conclude from that?

Regarding my ER analogy, yes, there's more than one ER, and there's more than one place that people post problems with a product. About 4 years ago there was a real bug in a release that affected 5% of users (back when there were under 100 million iPhones). The most active thread had over 12 thousand posts. So a lot of people come to Apple forums when they have a problem. That same thread today, with 1 billion phones, would potentially have 120 thousand.

What troubleshooting steps have you done so far to resolve it?

I face the same problem. I had a phone conversation with one of Apple's technical experts who advised that I upgrade the system into iOS 10.11 as my was still on an outdated system. But the problem persists. I came across this article which appears in Apple.com Support page. I will check if this is the case with my phone. I don't mind paying for battery replacement, I just want this problem solved immediately.

Ok, after some days of testing with Siri off & doing tips for saving battery life, I ignore my previous post about solving issue, battery still drains faster that before 10.2 but it's a little improved.
