Ios 10.2 draining battery FAST!

Yep. I've not noticed it much with normal usages but when I use my DJI Go app to control my drone, it goes from 80% down to 11% and/or shuts off within 5-10 min. Literally.

I have the exact same issue, iPhone 6s plus. I actually watched the battery drop 5% in 2 minutes on just the home screen. Initially I was wondering if my one year old phone was already having battery issues, but then I saw all the reports about iOS 10.2. I am pretty technical and examining the battery usage gives no insight as to why, nothing is using that much power as recorded, so its an iOS level problem. I now drop 40% in 2.5 hours o normal use where before that would not use 1/2 that amount of battery (facetime, phone, etc). It also seems to drain more in standby and can't charge as much in low charge sources (like the car).

Oh well, I guess the days of software testing are in the past. I am still waiting for the re-release of the watchOS update that got pulled weeks ago...

Yeah, I've also noticed charging via my computer at work is a bit slow. Vehicle seemed fine though, very odd.

So I have 100% as of 1pm, going to see how it goes.

I did check battery out in Settings, it doesn't show unusual usage.

This is exactly my problem and it has ruined part of my vacation because everyday I leave the hotel to take pictures of the Swiss Alps and my phone dies after 4 to 5 hours when showing 45+% battery life remaining which is ridiculous!! Thank God I insisted that my wife delay her "upgrade" to this crappy version.

Exact same problems as everyone else here. I used to be able to go two days between charges now I'm charging twice a day or more. This started literally within an hour of installing 10.2. This is CRAZY! I've been hesitant about updates since this same thing happened to me with iOS 7.0 on my 4s... since then I never installed updates and was the loser with the outdated iOS, I'd just buy a new phone and never update that one too. I did this with my 5, and 5s. I thought I'd chance it and here I am AGAIN in the same boat with my 6s+! I love my iPhone but hate the update **** with battery issues! I swear I'm never updating again. Just buying new phones and dealing with bugs until I get another new phone!!! My battery has drained 8% in the 4 mins it's taken me to type this out! Unacceptable Apple!

Yeah, so that payetteforward BS is just that. Why wasn't pushing emails a problem until 10?

I was in chat with Apple today and they have come to the conclusion that both my iPhone 5 & 6, that started having these battery drain issues the day I upgraded to 10, are due to hardware issues and not the OS. They even gave me this analogy....

"Say you have a bucket that you carry all of your information around in and you never knew there was a hole in the bottom of the bucket because it was never an issue. Then, one day, you poured water in the bucket. You now become aware that there is a hole in the bucket because you introduced something knew to the bucket. In the same way, the hardware issue may have been there all along, but introducing the new software may have brought that issue to light for you. Does that make any sense?"

So I asked them "Why is there a hole in my bucket?". So I'll go to the Apple store, they'll tell me it's a hardware issue and my phones aren't under warranty and I'll be out two phones that worked perfectly fine for years before this update.

I think IOS 10 was written for the iPhone 7 and is a resource hog that the 5 & 6 can't handle. Which makes you wonder ... is it horrible coding or brilliant in forcing you to upgrade?

As you experienced it with a different version, I hope by now you realize it has nothing to do with the version that you installed. Neither iOS 7.0 nor 10.2 has a problem. Neither did any other version (except 2.1, 9 years ago). Yet every time there is an update there are reports that the version, whatever it was, killed battery life. So either all versions have had the same problem for 9 years, or there is a different explanation than a problem with the version. What DOES have a problem is some app on your phone that did not handle the update correctly. Find the app and you can fix it. Go to Settings/Battery and see which app it is.

So what about a clean iPhone 6 with no background apps running and everything I can find disabled? I charge it fully at midnight. Sit it on the counter until 5AM and it's at 5% charge?

I can confirm. I did the war and the battery is still draining.

Hi, I never had issues with any update till now. I updated My iPhone 7 with10.2 and then my battery started to drain drastically. Like 15% every max 1 hour without using the phone. I did a restore firmware, then I start use the phone without any other application installed. Same situation. It is clearly a problem with the 10.2. I was on the phone with Apple support 2 times, they remotely checked the battery and they said that the battery is ok. They proposed me to send the phone for reparation. I went to Apple Store and they changed me the phone with a new one. I did not restore my backup! (They suggested it). I have the same problem. It is clearly because of the software update. Let's hope they will fix it in the new update. Till then, we need to plug our phone 4 times during the day. I also have another iPhone 6 , update to 10.2 and it does not have the same issue with battery drain.

Let's define "clean". You have gone to Settings/General/Reset and tap Erase all content and settings. When it prompts you choose Set Up As New. You do not log in to iCloud. You do not add any email accounts. And it still drains overnight? If so, your battery is bad. If you have installed anything at all, or logged in to iCloud, or adding an email account, the test is invalid.

As an alternative use iTunes to restore iOS, and follow the same instructions when prompted.

If it's due to the software update, why don't 200 million phones have the problem?

That's a good point, but almost everyone I've asked has experienced the issue.

To your previous question, I have erased all and setup as new and then let it sit. It drains. Now I have it plugged in for an hour and and it's still at 4%. Fine, it's the battery then right? Then why was this phone functioning without any issue for 1.5 years until the first 10 update?

Probably coincidence. If you are a heavy user 1.5 years is about right. The battery is spec'd at 500 full charge cycles to maintain 80% of capacity. You can test the battery yourself with the app Battery Life, or contact Apple; either a genius bar or just call; they can test the battery remotely. Apple's test is more thorough. Apple has just release a Support app that makes it easier to contact them, and it includes a link to simplify remote testing.
