I'm having the same exact problem where the battery is draining every four hours. I've recharged twice today and I've only been up for six hours. Nothing is running in the background and I'm just having my phone sit on my desk. No clue why this is happening but it needs to be fixed asap!
I called apple directly and after the rep tried to run me through all the normal crap you are saying she admitted that the IOS 10 updates are not working just right with the IPhone 6 models. She said there is a problem with the software coding and they have been a lot of phone calls and complaints. She said iPhone 7 users are unaffected. Both my wife and I updated our phones on the same day and we both experienced battery issues immediately. My phone shuts off from anywhere from 30 to 70 percent charge! They need to fix this quickly. Personally, I think it's a tactic to try to get people to buy new phones.

Wow, what is Lawrence going to say now? After all the "this in NOT an iOS problem" "this is NOT a real problem" posts he must be devastated his i-opinion has been trashed once and for all. But, that will not stop the nonsense posts, I'm quite certain of that. After all, it didn't happen to him, and there are not 2.5 million complaints on it yet??
I agree. It's a ploy to get 6 users to jump to 7. After I upgraded to 10.1 I was experiencing major battery drain issues. The phone was running perfectly under iOS9 and I was skeptical to jump to 10 because of the 'new' features. Right after installing the performance went downhill immediately. I brought the phone to my local Apple store wanting to get another iPhone 6 with iOS 9 installed because of the issue and he advised trying 10.1.1 to see if that might fix any issues. It did...for a while until this latest update. Now my phone has to be charged about twice a day just to keep it running where as before it wasn't an issue. Apple needs to fix this and take care of their consumer base. It's unheard of. My phone is only a year and a half old.
Now that there is a confirmed issue with all iOS 10 versions, and Apple customer care is finally beginning to admit this I will give my take on this issue and why the wide range of problems.
I've done a good amount of research on LiPo batteries over the years (very similar to Lithium-Ion)
being an RC car racer among other hobbies. I believe what is happening is the OS is creating an extreme draw on the battery through some app corruption (well beyond what any app on it's own creates) and those with marginal batteries hit a lower point of charge and the sudden voltage drop near the end takes the phone to shut off mode. My battery checks fine, and I never had the 30% shutdown, but I did have 10% per hour drain in standby mode while running nothing.
So, after people with marginally good batteries update, they kick in the high drain from corrupt iOS code and experience the shutdown, and those with decent batteries just notice a very short charge life and warm to hot phones. Now, that brings up an issue we all will have to watch for. Battery failure will now be more widespread since the #1 cause of battery failure is HEAT and rapid drain. My point is, keep an eye out for updates, and also watch for phone getting warm. Check Settings > Battery regularly and watch for offending apps causing high drain as the coding errors are still in our phones. I also recommend the free battery app called "Battery Life" (it is the green icon version as there are at least 2 with that name), and check your battery condition and temp on a regular basis to help reduce the chance of further failure. Also we must keep in mind that the higher battery draining apps we are running, the worse the extreme battery behavior we will experience.
So I just spoke with a service rep at Apple. She claimed they have been having issues after 10.1 but have seen a steep drop in complaints since this new 10.2 upgrade. That being said she had be do a backup in iTunes and then a factory restore. I'm still waiting for the rest of the apps to finish re-installing but we'll see how this pans out. If not I'm bringing this sucker back to the mothership. Thank God for AppleCare Plus. I'll keep you posted.
No, there is not a "confirmed issue". There is someone posting here saying they talked to an unnamed 1st tier AppleCare support person who may have said they were aware of issues with the update. Of course they have been saying that with every update since iPhone OS 1.1.
Why not just say Lithium Polymer?
Under your scenario every phone, all 1 billion or so, would be having this issue. But they aren't so why is it variable? Can you explain that? Why would yours be showing 84% of the battery is Siri Audio (something I've never seen before) and mine says Siri 3%? If the OS is causing this extreme drain on the battery why aren't I seeing it?
You really think there is one piece of corrupt code that is causing this? Again, why not everybody? Why not even 20%? And what would you suggest they do to fix it?

I'm not sure why I even bother to respond to this very narrow thinking. No, it would not! Corrupt code could be only causing problems when certain apps, combinations of apps, and parameters / settings are just in a certain sequence and the problem then evolves. If it was always everyone, it would never make it out of QA in the first place.
Same issue and getting worse it seems. IP6 would not even acknowledge charge last night. Woke to battery empty symbol. After plugging in to various chargers (yes, ALL Apple) got it to restart. Surprise! 100% charge. It has been a problem since I loaded iOS10 and gotten critical with iOS10.2. Just wish Apple would acknowledge the problem. It is starting to make me question my commitment to Apple products. Will try rollback of iOS or reloading, but I didn't buy a phone to use my time for tech fixes.
Tried all the tips on the web and this site, short of the re-install. Re-did all settings, checked battery use, etc.
Waiting for a fix. Hopefully, from Apple. I'd like to have some confidence to buy next iPhone.
Once again sir you are wrong. Apple does monitor this forum. I just received an email from them saying they were going to edit my post because it is "speculative"! What is speculative about repeating what their representative told me on the phone? What is speculative about us expressing our issues on this board? Instead of being honest with the customer they are being manipulative. I do believe this I going to be the last iPhone I own. Unbelievable! I'm sure they will probably kick me off the board for this post.

I am not wrong. Apple does not monitor the forum. You post was edited because a USER at level 2 or higher clicked a button labeled "report post" that asks a moderator to review the post for possible violation of the TOU (it wasn't me, at least this time). The operative word here is "moderator" (although they prefer to be called "hosts"). A Host's only job is to keep the forum running smoothly. They are not part of QA or engineering, or marketing, or any other department within Apple. They have no input into those areas, beyond what is available to you through the support site (https://getsupport.apple.com), bug reporting (available to registered developers) or feedback.

I agree. I too had 1 post deleted and a link of an iOS article removed and there were at least 3 other posts deleted from other members in another thread. They are apparently pretty up tight about this issue, and want to suppress information that doesn't pass their approval. I wonder why that is? NOT! I too will vote with my wallet if this isn't resolved fairly soon.
I found a solution! I had the same exact problem - that update took me from all-day battery life to half-day battery life or less overnight. Here's what worked for me:
Go to: Settings / General / Reset (Last item) / Reset all Settings ---> then just pull the trigger.
It sounds like a pain in the rear, but it's not that bad. The minor inconvenience of being prompted to set/approve location settings for individual apps as I opened them was worth it. Two days ago my phone was at 9% by Noon after only the most basic usage. Since resetting my settings, I've gotten two full days out of my phone with 20% battery still available by the time I was calling it a night.
I hope this works for you guys – good luck!
Dear double d's et al,
I took my device to a Mac Centre here in my country. I was told that i need to leave the device with them for two days so they can get it diagnosed and determine if the problem is indeed with the battery or with the device itself. For that I need to pay PHP 1,000 (approximately US$20.00) which I don't mind. If the problem is with the battery, they will replaced at the cost of PHP 3,800 but i need to wait for two weeks as they will need to order the batter from Singapore. If not then the recommended action is "unit replacement" which will cost me around PHP 19,000 (roughly 400 $US). I got mine at a duty free shop in Abu Dhabi airport in January 2015. I could only update the operating system when I travelled out of the country where I used to work because it's under US sanctions and downloading and updating apps is always a problem. When I reached home on 21 December last year, I contacted the Apple Support via email who responded immediately and gave me a phone call. I was advised to update the operating system to the latest one, the 10.2. With childlike faith, I followed to advice but it did nothing to improve battery usage. I also thought that perhaps the heat in the country where I worked could have affected battery performance. But I talked to colleagues who remain there and they informed me that they have not experienced any battery problem.
I am still keeping the email I received from Apple Support for reference. What saddens me is the lack of appropriate response from the Apple tech team, the geniuses behind this device. I do hope that in future they would demonstrate corporate responsibility and acknowledge that there's a problem and that they are taking it seriously and will do something about it. Steve Jobs could be turning in his grave if he knew what is happening with one of the products that his company has produced.
I have not choice but to get a new iPhone as I am using a Mac laptop. Such is the sad state of affairs.
I will keep listening and following suggestions and I hope that we will all find our "eureka" moment to solve this problem.
Kind regards,
Witty and wise
Apple really messed up on this update - our 6 is simply shutting down around 42% and my i7 is now draining in less than a day with very little use. It happened **immediately after installing 10.2**
Does anyone know how to roll back an awful update like this? I'm super unhappy, how can they let a huge bug like this go out?!?!?!
