Unable to update to Apple Watch OS 3.1.1

The update was pulled out by apple, following reports that it is bricking Apple Watch Series 2 devices.

They'll fix the bug and rerelease it.

OF COURSE TOO LATE for those with bricked watches.. you now have to get your watch to an apple store and wait a month for them to fix it 😠

Great news. I am 24 hrs to late. My 2 month old watch is a small brick. Locked up in instillation. Had a call from engineering this AM and they are sending me a new watch with this one going back to them. They were very nice and obliging. Just hope they get the new one here quickly. They must have lots of calls last night. This is the first time since owning Apple products since early '80s that I have had anything so completely messed up. Oh well just have to figure out how to set the new one up.

Exactly the same problem. Sigh .... every time, there must be something wrong, Crapple.

Wow, wish I had known this before doing the update, mine did the update fine and my watch is now running 3.1.1 but I wouldn't have started it knowing that it could have bricked my watch. I'm glad it didn't, but this scares me now from doing any future updates should they come out.

Apple has issued the following statement:

"A very small number of Apple Watch customers experienced an issue while installing watchOS 3.1.1, so as a precaution we've pulled back the software update. Any customers impacted should contact AppleCare, but no action is required if the update installed successfully. We are working on a fix for an upcoming software update."

After deleting the installer from the watch, I was able to download WatchOS 3.1 (not 3.1.1) and successfully install. Yes, the blade of the leading edge of technology is sharp, but will not leave a scar.

A lot of people have been reporting they are now unable to update. I searched online and saw sites report that apple has pulled the update due to it causing issues on some watches.

I am getting the very same message. I KNOW I'm connected to wifi but I keep getting the message.

They are apparently reverse engineering this problem. They are sending me a new watch and getting mine back exactly as it locked up. I would guess it will be a few weeks until they re-release this update. Be sure to contact Apple about the problem. All Watch Series 2 should be within warranty period. Then get AppleCare if you can. Electronics are the only thing I put extended warranty on.

People should read the thread before posting--way back at the beginning I told people that it was bricking Series 2 and that Apple has pulled it. I would say this thread is complete.

I have been working with AppleCare all day. They are supposed to call me back for the 3rd time to check and see if the iWatch reset allowed me to update to 3.1.1. Amazing that the people at AppleCare have no clue what their own company is doing. It has been a total pain to deal with this. Can't wait until they call back. They might want to read their own community blog.
