Unable to update to Apple Watch OS 3.1.1

Same issue despite iwatch and phone being fully charged, connected to charging cables, on good quality high speed wifi and after reboots of both devices in an attempt to resolce. No sign of comprehensive fix advice from Apple.

If you read these discussions, you will see how to handle the problem. Apple pulled this update early last Tuesday. I have talked to three different people from engineering to Apple Care and they are working on the problem. They are pulling my watch in to see what happened. They are replacing it completely. They had a problem but please don't accuse them of doing nothing. Call Apple Care and if the person that answers doesn't have a solution ask for someone higher. I was going to send mine in as of last Monday but Engineering called me Tuesday AM and agreed to send me a replacement and I will send the broken one back to them.

I have an original watch and have successfully updated.

I did notice that it did take much longer than previous update. I had to try several times but once the watch started to show updating all was OK but this part also took a long time (40 Minutes).

At this stage it is important not to abandon the update; I suspect that is what causes inexperienced watch users to 'brick' the watch. Apple clearly advises you not to turn off the watch (or by implication the iPhone) until the update is completed.

Hi Sapiafi. I have been working with AppleCare all day. They are supposed to call me back for the 3rd time to check and see if the Apple Watch reset allowed me to update to 3.1.1. Amazing that the people at AppleCare have no clue what their own company is doing. It has been a total pain to deal with this. Can't wait until they call back. They might want to read their own community blog.

Thanks to everyone for the extended discussion. Everyone, I'm sure, appreciates those with the answer patiently repeating the pull-back notice from Apple and the instructions on how to delete the SW update from their iWatch app.

I have been having the same problem. But can you tell me -if Apple are pulling the update why does it still have the icon to tell me there is an update. Do I just ignore this?

I think Apple canned 3.1.1 for the time being. After removing the failed update last week, and going to try another update to see if they fixed it this week, I get the message saying 3.1 is the current version.

I'm not sure they give their overseas call centers enough current info to be informed.

My experience was that if you click on the update link, it will tell you that your current version (3.1) is good.

I could not install 3.1.1. Just kept getting the message that I was not connected to the internet but I certainly was!

So I followed the advice and deleted the download 3.1.1 update and now it says my watch has the latest 3.1 software. All good.

So seems at least in New Zealand & Australia that Apple have pulled the update.

So deleted the update. Now shows 3.1 but have another issue.

When I try to load any app it does not let me, says "cannot install since the OS is being installed"

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I am having the same issues!

I went to the Apple Watch app on my iPhone, went to General>Usage>Software Update and deleted the download of 3.1.1. Then went back to the install screen and tried again and it said I was up to date with Apple Watch OS. Maybe not the cleanest way to go about it but it got rid of the 1 on the app on my phone which was my goal all along so I'll count it as a win.
