Tried to back up my phone after updating to 12.2, only to find that the only version that still works with Vista64 (12.1.3.6) does not support the new IOS.
Any suggestions for an alternate product that I can use? I do not want to be without a reliable backup.

Minimum requirements for a PC is Windows 7 or later and the latest version of iTunes.
Won't work using Windows Vista.
Yes, I know. They had the same problem before, and came out with 12.1.3.6 to take care of it. Hopefully they will release another version for Vista soon.
There will not be any more releases for anything less than Windows 7. Apple clearly states that the minimum to support iOS 10.x.x is Windows 7 and iTunes 12.5.1.21. Windows doesn't even support Vista any more. Why would Apple release a version of iTunes for it?
They will release a version because they are more than willing to sell me a new phone every year. If they can't support my phone they lose my business.
I like my phones to look like my phones and my computers to look like my computers. I actually USE my computer as a computer. There is nothing about Windows 7, 8, or 10 that remotely wants me to "upgrade." ****, if I could keep building my computers with Windows NT Server I would, but the hardware is not compatible any longer. Same problem with XP Pro. Until Microsoft decides to get back into the operating system business again and get rid of all the fluff, I'm sticking with Vista 64.
Hello Blues4u. I'm also very fond of good old Windows Vista, but unfortunately Apple is not. I'm guessing you don't have an iPhone 7 or SE, because you never would've made it to iOS 10.2 without hitting this roadblock. You should be able to back up to iCloud in any event. As you probably know, iTunes 12.1.3.6 (which is now 15 months old) was able to offer some degree of support to older iPhone models running early versions of iOS 10. If you are saying that iOS 10.2 has completely broken compatibility, please share the bad news with the fellows in that thread (there was a new post in it today asking about the update). Personally, I'm not attempting to support any Apple gadgets using my Vista PC. I have good old iTunes 11.1.5 installed as playback software because it doesn't produce a crash report on Vista every time you close it like later versions of iTunes always did. Good luck!

How do you explain the security updates for Windows Vista that I installed this afternoon?
If you're running SP2, then you will have extended support until 4/11/2017. Security updates are not functional updates. So any app that would be provisioned now would have no Windows support relative to its functionality. ie, drivers. Mainstream support for Vista ended on 4/10/2012.

While you were looking that up, did you notice that mainstream support for Windows 7 ended January 13, 2015? There is no logical connection between what Apple supports and what Microsoft supports, and someday Apple might be sued for falsely claiming that an "iTunes for Windows" exists.
Ignoring the whys and wherefores of end of life strategies for a moment, take a look at iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows just in case your current build of iTunes can be coaxed into seeing your device.

Looking at the numbers here and seeing Vista with just 1.1% of the OS market share compared to 47% for Windows 7 I would guess that Windows 7 users probably don't have to worry about losing iTunes support for a few more years.

Well if it's just a matter of numbers, then Apple should definitely end support for OS X.👿 But of course you are correct turingtest2. After all, Apple supported Windows XP for more than a year after Microsoft ended extended support. In fact I would say that Apple supported XP better than Vista, having personally experienced the Appcrash and BEX errors that iTunes versions later than 11.1.5 caused on Vista. If there is anyone who actually likes Windows 8, then I predict a bleak future for them as well, because Microsoft's free Windows 10 upgrade offer decimated the Windows 8.1 user base.
you mean ios10.2 - mine won't connect to itunes for vista
too and I'm really annoyed about it.
Of course the "Apple recommended" response is the one that restates what Blues4u already knew. Having noticed where the question mark was in the original post, I at least mentioned iCloud as a backup option in my response...
